A poor performance yesterday but we didn't have much going for us. As soon as we lost the toss we knew it would be uphill, and when Hales was given out dubiously that was pretty much the end of it as far as I was concerned. We did well to bat our way back into it, but missing our four best seamers and our best spinner it was never enough, and when Duckworth-Lewis finished us off we couldn't really complain. Still happy with the start to the season, happy to see younger players getting a go. Would like to see Footitt in the near-future just to give us a different option, but I haven't seen what sort of form he's in yet so maybe that's pre-mature. Minor concerns are presenting themselves, the top order doesn't seem to have fired on all cylinders yet.

Team to face Somerset: Hales, Shaf, Wagh, Patel, Voges, Brown, Read, Ealham, Adams, Sidebottom, Fletcher.

Bats deep, not sure the attack has as much firepower as I'd like - could be a long time in the field if Trescothick and Langer get stuck in. Few overs for Samit methinks. It's probably the team I would've played.

It's a team that almost picks itself - shame about Ali Brown though, I think I'd rather see Jefferson at 6 than Brown and that really is saying something. The seam attack looks okay, but Trent Bridge is a flatter wicket this year and there will be a lot of pressure on the team who loses the toss. Somerset's attack looks terrible and I cannot see any strategy for them other than bat first, score big and apply scoreboard pressure. Our attack is noticeably better but not one you can see blowing a side away.

Can't say I'm at all bothered who we go with out of Brown or Jefferson. I think Brown is more likely to adapt to playing at number 6, although that's based on pure instinct. I suppose they could put Shaf at six and open with Jeffers but I think we'll eventually see the benefit of giving Shaf a long run as opener.

Not a bad team that...... Is this the tactic for coping with no Swann for the rest of the summer? Play an extra batsman and get Samit spinning it? I'm not convinced.

Good to see Fletch over Franks, kudos to Mick for that pick. Jefferson will be back next CC game, Newell loves him. I suspect Shaf and Hales are playing for a place here.

God I completely forgot about Fireworks, I thought there was a glaring omission!

Losing Swann is going to severely weaken the team whatever way we do it. I think I prefer asking Samit to bowl a near-full quota of overs compared to playing Jason Brown - we lose a hell of a lot of batting (or have to drop probably a very good seamer) to gain a spinner who is really not an awful lot better than Samit.

I think he's a good cover signing for the OD competitions though.

I really hope you're wrong about Jeffers coming in for Hales or Shaf. I don't want to write him off after one poor season as I think he is a decent player, but...

Now Mick as decided to give hales ago which is great, the last thing he needs is to be left out. Hales needs a good run in the team to see if hes good enough (which i think he is) to me theres only 1 person to be left out Ali Brown, to me hes a cover player not a 1st team regular.

I see your boys are in the final again yams

Can see Fletch in for the season. Hales is the one who may lose his place shortly......

Great effort from the bowlers, especially Fletch, and God knows what getting Trescothick out will do for his confidence.

Hmm, Mr Wagh's not really clicked in the Championship yet. We really should post a good total here, their bowling is very average...

Shaf isn't half bad for our run rate but we could do with an innings from him now for the rest to build around.

Another dodgy LBW against Hales.

I agree with gilo, somersets bowling looks pretty poor and we need to get a good lead as i cant see langer and tres failing twice

37/3, Patel out for 11. Need a partnership soon and certainly can't lose any more before the close.

Good decision to go with 4 bowlers by the looks of things, we're going to need the deep batting.

All in all, looks like it's going to be a similar story to last year!
