It pleased me in that I expected him to get out quicker than that, but it didn't please me (and nor did Wagh's innings) in that they should have known that they needed to keep up with the D/L run rate. Newell is reported to be not best pleased - he would have liked to be at home in the quarter finals.

It's hard to tell how the Notts season will go from here.

We've been far too brittle in the batting department. The only high scores were in the first couple of matches, and the top order had to be bailed out by the middle order / "tail" (Ealham!). We're desperate for some runs from Jefferson and Wood. We could do with Wagh getting further than the 50s, and Patel making some big runs in the CC. Voges has been rather disappointing. Read could hardly be expected to keep up his tremendous start to the season; I'd expect the odd good innings from him and a few failures.

The bowling has been pretty good, but we're a bit over-reliant on Pattinson, who still isn't very experienced. Shreck's doing OK but not not looking like running through the opposition. Swann's done very well but has England duty coming up. Ealham is doing a good reliable job but his best days are almost certainly behind him. Franks tends to be expensive - still a useful team member. Fletcher has made a very good economical start. Patel is under-used in four day matches, maybe he will take on a bigger role while Swann is away (I wouldn't trust Ferley to have much impact). Sidebottom and Broad are rarely available. Harris and Adams are waiting in the wings. Footitt should have recovered from his back surgery by now, but I've heard nothing about him. An awful lot of buts on the bowling front.

We could really do with a solid performance at Lancs, particularly a good first innings batting performance. If we could get a first innings lead (looking unlikely after the first day) I would be a good deal more optimistic about the rest of the season.

The Huss will save us (soon).

Basically we're an opener-hitting-form away from challenging for the title - ie a very long way away.

Apparently we're going to make a big signing who will open in the Twenty20 Cup on some sort of Kolpak... Although T20 could just be what Duckinator and Wood need, an excuse to just try and whack it...

Trying to think of plausible possiblities. Loots Bosman? Vaughan Van Jaarsveldt, maybe?

Some people are suggesting Chris Cairns.

The Lancs league is full of kiwi players. We got Vincent from Ramsbottom and I know that McMillan is another who is playing league cricket.

This thread seems to have died! I'm not sure why - it's an interesting season for Notts. The Huss won't be back this season because he's centrally contracted to Australia, and they think he needs a rest, though what it is that's been tiring him out is a mystery. Voges continues for the time being, and apparently Notts have got someone else in the pipeline to replace him for the last 6 weeks of the season.

Two competitions where Notts haven't quite lived up to expectations so far - FPT and T20 - and the CC where Notts are at the top but still in danger of relegation! On the whole I'm quite pleased with the season so far. I really didn't expect such a good start in the CC, and to have done it without any opening batsmen is remarkable.

Good of England to take note of yet another Notts bowler. Surprised they didn't pick Shreck too just to complete the set.

Can you get much more English than being born in Grimsby? I don't think we can hold his Ozzie accent against him. For all we know, he may have been dragged kicking and screaming away from sunny Grimsby and taken to that dreadful country Australia. It's clear that he's taken the opportunity to return to the land of his birth - he could have chosen to remain in Oz. I'm sure he will have been enjoying the pleasant English climate for the past few months.

I stand corrected then, it may have been someone else I was getting confused with.

My post was a bit tongue in cheek - but Pattinson certainly is qualified for England.

If he was deported I suspect he's now a bit too old for England consideration.

VVS Laxman is reportedly signing for Notts at some point this season.

That'd be the last 6 weeks to replace Voges, as slowest bowler mentioned earlier. Works for me. Voges has been good but not spectacular. We've missed Hussey big time.

Hopefully Voges will be better now he knows exactly how much longer he's here for.

He's welcome to come back for the T20 next year as well.

No-one can really replace the Huss although he's given us a good leaving present by recommending Pattinson if he has played his last game. He did sign a two year contract though so don't know how much we'll have him next year. Hopefully the IPL will clash with country cricket less next year and he'll be released from the Aus squads to play for us when he's not playing for them.

Shame as he'd make a welcome addition to the Lancashire team instead of the traitor Hodge.

I thought Laxman wasn't coming till August when Voges was due to depart?
