Maybe in T20, less so in 50 over cricket I reckon because of the amount of hitters down the order now and the time they have.

Also most of the good openers score at Narine levels anyways don't they?

A hugely disappointing set of figures, Stokes aside. Woakes hasn't done too badly I guess. I can't believe Roy wasn't given more opportunities.

Apart from Stokes and Woakes it looks as if the others won't play any more. Kings XI Punjab won without Morgan in the side. Has Buttler gone home, has Morgan returned?

Buttler is still out there, I believe, but hasn't been selected in the last couple of games.

Am I right in thinking IPL teams can play only four overseas? He seems to have lost his place in the MI side to Lendl Simmons. The other three overseas players are Kieron Pollard, and the bowlers McLenaghan and Malinga.

Don't know about Morgan. There's a three line whip for all England's CT squad to be in Spain on Monday for a bonding session so Stokes and Woakes will be on their way back this weekend,too...

Yes 4 international players. Still no Morgan or Buttler today.

Bowlers going at 14.50 13.50 11.25 10.66 15.00 but Bumrah 6.00. Best fast bowler in IPL for me.

Woakes out with an ankle niggle. Boult replaces him. It could just be that Woakes won't be around for the next game so Boult gets some game time.

Morgan flies all the way back to India to be run out for 4.

Stokes' signs off from the IPL with a big win although his role was somewhat minor.

Lots of shellackings in this tournament too.

Pietersen, Colly, Shah and Dimi top of the pile. Stokes the only recent player to have had success.

Billings appears to have been rather indifferent twice.

Think Kolkata had the best pitch with more bounce than anywhere else.

Woakes
18-0-143-11 - 13.00 econ 7.94 Kolkata
26-0-243-6 - 40.50 econ 9.34 elsewhere

Expected that Stokes and Woakes would now get a surge in their Twitter followers especially from Indians. Thought Stokes would get half a million or so at least. Maybe next year.

After the start of the IPL, new followers
Stokes 26688
Woakes 7106

Stokes
“On the field, MS epitomises calmness and, from a cricket point of view, has the best angle in terms of field placements,” he continued.

The keeper always should be the fielding captain. Maybe Buttler, ODIs/Bairstow, Tests will be given more chance rather than Stokes, fielding where he wants and moving the fielders around himself. Buttler/Bairstow don't seem to have the bossy presence that Prior had. Prior seemed to talk to the bowlers more as well.

There's always Sam Billings... I'm searching for the right phrase here, so let us just say he is a preternaturally self-confident young man.

I remember his ODI debut v New Zealand. Every time Morgan had a talk to his bowler, Billings ran up to them and offered his two pennyworth - and he wasn't even keeping but was a boundary out-rider and so had no idea about angles or what the ball was doing. He just believed that everyone should hear what he had to say. I love the lad, having first seen him play when he was 15 - but frankly the bumptiousness was a tad embarrassing!

Meanwhile, back to today's match. Whatever you think of the IPL, you have to admit it has the best names in cricket. I'm just watching a pair of bowlers named Lockie Ferguson and Washington Sundar. No idea who they are, but they are doing OK - 4-37 between them from seven overs!

Wow -what a final. Mitch Johnson bowling at Steve Smith in the final over.

I love four-innings county cricket and have been watching it now for 56 seasons. But I never in my wildest dreams imagined our beloved game could become such an extraordinary spectacle.

So frustrating that we have to wait until 2020 for the English equivalent!

Saw Pune were about 75-1 off roughly 12 overs and assumed a straightforward win was in the cards. Looks like Smith misjudged it.

I felt Mumbai Indians would win even before the match started. When they only got 129 I thought they had enough, with their good bowling attack. I was nervous with Johnson bowling the last over though. So glad they won as I like the Pandya brothers and Bumrah.

Did RPS miss Stokes? Christian's last two overs went for 26.

Found this interesting -

Overseas players travelled a grand total of 728,004 km from their home town for this year's IPL

DD 162,874 km
KKR 103,450 km
RCB 89,455 km
KXI 88,891 km
MI 86,640 km
GL 74,418 km
RPS 65,037 km
SH 57,039 km
