The Northants Thread!

Right, as we were lacking one on the old forum I thought I'd start one on here. Not that anybody other than myself, Daz and ac Red Herring will post on here mind you.

I've got a good feeling about this season, new signings look promising, although I do feel we could struggle for class bowlers in the longer form of the game but should target 20/20 success and also the Pro40 league title.

I think Northants may scrape a win in a list A games against Gloucestershire. With a bit of luck and favourable winds. :-\

Aha, that's where you're wrong. I'm spamming the board tonight. Right where's the bottom of the barrel so I can scrape together an opinion on Northants? Oh, there is Northants, at the bottom of the barrel. Good oh.

Don't worry, once the season starts, we'll get plenty of others over here complaining about our pitches, and gloating over our batting collapses.

Pretty good analysis for next season. I think some one day success is possible- we did really well in the Pro 40 last season, after a dreadful start to the season. I'm with you on the lack of bowlers front. We can only hope that someone will do what Steffan Jones did last year, and turn out to be much better than anyone thought. Except without leaving Northants first, obviously.

We've got a Northants thread, so we just need some Northants news.

I see former county captain Geoff Cook has been appointed Durham's new coach now that Moxon has left. I never knew that he was responsible for the Durham academy- he's done a pretty good job there.

With any luck I'll get up for a fair few games this season, and definitely will be there for the game in Milton Keynes, which reminds me, I'm going to get tickets very early for that one.

Geoff Cook has been at Durham from the start of the FC inauguration. He was instrumental in bringing in people such as Botham, Larkins and Graveney.

He was the first team coach a few years ago and we didn't do very much under him.

Durham are a much better side now than they were to start off, so he might well get better results than last time round. If memory serves, we did relatively well when he was captain- although that might simply be due to having had a strong team at the time.

So, Northants vs Kent at Wantage Road on the 12th of April for a warm up (what will be in the freezing cold, anyway) game...one man and his dog most probably...might pop up if the weather's OK.

Reports on the first friendly at Hove on the NCCC site and in the Argus. Northants won by four wickets, with 8 balls (NCCC version) or 9 balls (Brighton Argus version) to spare.

Sussex 287/6 (50 overs)
Montgomerie 80*, Prior 79, Adams 55
S. Crook 10-?-43-3

Northants >287/6
S.Crook 44, Wessels 82, Coverdale 63*
Vintner 2/?, Liddle 2/?

There's another 50 over match being played today.

Edit- I see I'm five minutes too late.

Hmmm, who is going to be our first choice keeper this season? Wessels was a little unlucky last season with injury, but by all accounts was rather poor. O'Brien has looked the part and has scored good runs against top attacks in this WC and has proved himself.

I guess Wessels will be starting the season anyway as O'Brien won't be back until after the season has started I think.

EDIT: Thought I'd post the One Day shirt for the new season...prefer last season's one, but this one's still pretty nice anyway. Never heard of the sponsor tho.

I think I've heard of them before. It's better than having Hayley written on your t-shirt as though it's your name...
