But oddly only one of those named is on the shortlist for the PCA player of the year, which consists of Coles, Prince, Rushworth and Bairstow. The winner will be anounced at the PCA dinner next Tuesday.

Shows how nonsensical this award is-Samit has been Notts Most Valuable Player apparently. Well, as a Notts fan, I'd put a mere 10 of the Notts players ahead of him in 2015.

It over values all round contributions, doesn't it? If I recall correctly you don't lose points for being a liability with the ball so all rounders who go for lots a large proportion of the time but do take wickets too tend to do okay.

Ryder has been good but not Essex's best player this season.

Yes. This season he's been fairly consistently mediocre. Several other players have actually done well.

PCA Team of the Year

1 Cook
2 Hales
3 Root
4 Northeast
5 L Wright
6 Stokes
7 A Davies
8 Broad
9 Coles
10 J Patel
11 Rushworth

People will be wondering why Bairstow isn't the keeper and Bresnan isn't number 8.

Bairstow 1108 runs at 92.33
Bresnan 899 runs at 49.94 and 45 wickets at 30.88

Prince couldn't get in with 1478 runs and Root didn't play one game for Yorks.

At least Tom Curran received Young Player of the Year.

Presumably, the team is based on all forms of cricket? Otherwise, I can't fathom Northeast over Prince and several other middle-order bats.

This criterion might also have edged Tommy Topknot to the Young Player Award, as he played several crucial hands at the death of RLC games.

But this is not the CC team of the year - it's all cricket, which should be obvious as there are three names there who really only played Test cricket in 2015.

Coles deserved his place because he took 100 wkts in all competitions.

But I agree the excluson of Prince and Bairstow is bizarre, particularly as both were on the four strong shortlist as PCA player of the year, along with Coles and Rushworth. How can you be shortlisted for player of the year but then not make the team of the year? Northeast and young Davies had decent seasons but their inclusion doesn't seem either logical or just.

Cookie did contribute to two Essex Championship victories plus one winning draw this season, which has to be something of a collector's piece.

Also have to ask what Woakes needed to do to be test player of the year. I suppose the answer is either have a dad who was also a test cricketer or possibly have played for the whole year for England with success, not just the English summer. Perhaps it's both.

I think Woakes will get England Test Player of the Summer.

It will be interesting to see the Team of the Year as they also include the England players.
