He will need to hit the ground running at Sussex, though. Mushtaq Ahmed made it very difficult for every spinner who followed in his wake. Anyone who tried, including Panesar, soon fell out of favour on the grounds they were 'not as good as Mushy'.
I don't think that had anything to do with Monty falling out of favour. I believe in 2010 he got more first class wickets than anyone in world cricket. They'd be daft to expect Briggs or anyone to compare to Mushy anyway.

I was about to say the same thing. Writing off Monty's problems on unfair expectations on behalf of the Mushy loving Sussex faithful does neither him nor the county a service. This has been borne out during his time at Essex too.

Yes Monty was very successful and popular at Sussex for 3 years before losing his way in his final year

Ryan Pringle leaves Durham for Derbyshire over a contract dispute.

Adam Hickey also considering his future.

Why weren't Durham more proactive in trying to secure their futures earlier?

Their admin is a shambles. They offer our players derisory contracts due to the amount of debt trying to chase international cricket.

Keaton Jennings is also rumoured to be leaving.

I hope Lewis takes the Essex coaching job. That's one departure I'd be happy to see.

Further developments - Pringle has just been offered an improved contract so his departure is not rubber-stamped yet. I understand this is much better than the club's last offer.

A gripping transfer saga indeed, they'll be interviewing Paul Grayson through his car window outside a training ground next.

I could certainly have done without the phone calls.

Durham need to be careful the way they do business. They offer their youngsters development contracts which are peanuts. Hickey played at England U19 level and wasn't too happy to find some of those players had full contracts at their counties. Hickey went in to sort out his contract last month and my understanding was he was far from happy at getting a development contract again when his county colleague Jack Burnham got a better one.

The obvious thing was to ask around and it appears Essex are expressing an interest. Durham may not be happy at being held to ransom like this but as our playing staff is dwindling, most of the top players of the last 10 years have gone, and no signs of bringing any new players in, they only have them selves to blame.

Even if you don't like to gamble, get your mortgage on Durham going down at the end of next season.

I don't think Durham can afford to lose youngsters like Burnham, Hickey, Jennings and Pringle.

According to Shoaib Malik, her's signed for Durham next year.

Must be for T20 as Hastings is going nowhere.

Add Neil Broom (EU passport) and James Neesham (T20 only) to a Derbyshire side who might be bettered served as the kiwis rather than the falcons in the blast.

There'll be a Bangladeshi player in county cricket next year as Mustafizur Rahman has signed for Sussex in T20 to start with, then taking over from Ross Taylor as overseas for the rest of the season. I think he's only the third Bangladeshi after Tamim and Shakib to play for a county so good luck to him.

He's had spells at Worcestershire and (I think) Leicestershire, doing pretty well at the former is memory serves right.
