He played for one of the universities this summer. I don't know whether that means he has given up looking for a county and is studying instead. I'm surprised no county has taken him on since he got released.

Guess who is back at Yorkshire until the end of the season. Azeem Rafiq.

Josh Shaw recalled from Gloucs as Plunkett and Willey with England and Sidebottom, Brooks and Fisher injured.

notice he played in the T20 on Friday - i'd be frustrated if Derbyshire didn't make an approach considering our bowling issues.

Lancs will probably sign Borthwick, similarly to signing Buttler so that they could help him play for England and the IPL, Big Bash etc.

I was hoping that they would sign Chopra when he left Essex.

My understanding with Borthwick is that Surrey are also sniffing around.

BBC confirms interest in Hales & Chopra from Essex and Stoneman & Borthwick from Surrey:

I don't really like to see these sort of stories at this stage of the season. Surrey's final Championship match is at Chester-le-Street, which could be a big one for both sides for different reasons if the current table remains similar. It would be severely compromising if one or two Durham players were competing to send down a county they've already signed up to play for next year. (Or if they were omitted in the event that the game is irrelevant to Durham but a must win for Surrey.)

Some movement in the East Midlands today. Andy Carter's contract terminated , and Scott Elstone and Tom Knight released by Derbyshire.

Will Gidman leaves Notts to go on loan to kent.

Curse of the England 12th man strikes again for Elstone.

Andy Carter fell out with the coach according to a local newspaper report and left by "mutual consent" despite being only halfway through the first season of a 2-year deal. Evidently the club is, once again, in a mess.

Crazy the number of players that exit via the Derbyshire revolving door mid season, it must at least three a year currently. For what it's worth i don't think Elstone ever had it, however questions need to be answered regarding quite how Tom Knight was developed. He went from looking a real handy bowler in limited overs cricket to being unbowlable following an action remodelling. He showed signs of being a useful hard hitting batsmen yet was consistently asked to bat at 8 or lower in limited overs where he could have little impact.

Stoneman is leaving Durham.

Sounds like Surrey-bound.

I wonder if Carter will find another county?

I heard he was leaving Durham to get away from the only county that chucks money around enough to breach the salary cap.

That is so 2010....I think the phrase has Pot, Haven't, They, In, Got, A and P*** in it. Hence Mustard and Stoneman leaving.

In any case Surrey invented that didn't they?

Are we seeing the first fruits of the scandalous (imho) decision of the ECB to allow Middlesex and Surrey a larger salary cap than the remaining 16 counties?
