Karl Brown an 18 year old batsman. We also have Horton who will probably play instead.

If Mahmood and Anderson are not required for test duty this summer, it will be interesting to see which fast bowlers make it into the Lancs XI.

I think we will see a bit more rotation of the bowlers. Lancs will definitely be without Anderson when the ODI series are on and probably Mahmood as well. I expect that Chapple and Cork will not play in every game and that Kyle Hogg won't play that much in the Championship. I would have thought that at least one of Anderson or Mahmood will be in the test 12 so will only have both if one is 12th man. If Anderson is avaliable he will be the first bowler on the team sheet Watkinson is a big fan of his. Not too sure how much he likes Mahmood but he can fail to be impressed by how much he is improving so he could push his way into the team at the expense of Smith. I would also expect we will not play two spinners when Murali is avaliable.

If we had our whole squad (minus Flintoff) available for the county champiosnhip, the 1st XI they'll choose will be:-

Chilton, Sutcliffe, Loye, Law, Hodge, Sutton, Chapple, Cork, Smith/Mahmood, Anderson, Murali.

They'll probably go with Mahmood because of the extra pace, but Smith is highly thought of at Lancs, so thats why it is close between him and Mahmood. Of course for the limited over games there will probably be the usualy squad rotation, so we should see the likes of Marshall, Hogg, Brown, Cross, Horton, Keedy and Croft get games in.

is that Newby still at Lancs? I always thought he was promising. We could do with a young 'un like him down at Sussex

Yeah he still is, he'll get the odd game, but he's a bit hit and miss, the problem we have we've got a few good youngsters coming through but they can't get in the side with the likes of Cork and Chapple in the side, who are getting on a bit but are putting in the performances every week. It would make sense to loan them out to Div 2 clubs, just to give them experience and can't see why they can't do it.

First match of the season, friendly v Durham. Sutcliffe out for 2. Is he honestly one of our best batsmen?

NO. I would prefer one of Horton or Brown to be given his position this season but I can't see that happening.

Nice to see that Loye was showing England what they were missing against Durham. Good to see that the wickets were shared around. Some revenge from what happened in South Africa.

The link doesn't work for me; I've been unable to get the LCCC website all afternoon. I wanted to check what you said about Harmison because from looking at the scorecard earlier I thought it was just Ben Harmison that was playing.

Yes I realised that it was Ben Harmison and not Steve it would have helped if Lancs had included the initials in the bowing figures.

In summary Lancs: 224 for 8 from 50 overs. Loye 80, Horton 37, Chilton 27. Claydon 3 for 53.

Durham 203 a.o 47.3 overs Mustard 63, Blenkenstein 50. Newby 3 for 43, Smith 2 for 35 and Chapple 3 for 46. Marshall 1 for 40 and Cork 0 for 31.

It's great that we can watch highlights of all Lancs games on the LCCC website. No sound so they are doing them like a silent movie, with captions followed by the action.

It's a bit weird though that the camera doesn't move so you don't see where the ball has gone unless it is caught behind or hits the stumps!

From The Times today - Shane Warne

Picture the scene: Lancashire win the toss on an overcast morning and quickly get rid of our opening batsmen. James Anderson is steaming in at one end, Andrew Flintoff at the other. The pitch is doing a bit and their tails are up. In walks Kevin Pietersen. He takes guard, works out the field, grits his teeth and gets set.

There could not be a more exciting scenario for cricket followers, and the ECB has the power to make it happen. Perhaps not in so much detail. But, on May 9, Hampshire take on Lancashire at the Rose Bowl. If Duncan Fletcher and the board really care about county cricket they will make sure the big names are out.

After what has gone on this winter, I will be super-angry as well as frustrated should Pietersen be ordered to rest by Fletcher before the first Test against West Indies on May 17. And if that happens, the ECB should overrule him, England coach or not. The board runs the game, raise the money and is entitled to kick up a stink.

As the Hampshire captain I would love to have Pietersen in my side. It would be great for our young players to have him around, just as it would be wonderful experience for them to play against Flintoff, Anderson and Sajid Mahmood. And think of the impact it would have on the gate.

What a great advertisement for the county game. Once England are out of the World Cup, I will be on the phone to KP to find out what instructions he has had from above and to confirm he wants to play and help out his mates. I think that all of them would go back to their counties given the choice, although they may be reluctant to disagree with Fletcher in public.

I would like to see what Warne looks like when he is 'super-angry'. I think all our players should at the most have a week off but as the World Cup games are quite spread out they shouldn't really be that tired. Our players could be coming home in a weeks time.

He was super-angry at the last meeting between Hants and Lancs at the Rosebowl, although I didn't actually see what he looked like.

I totally agree with him, the England cricketers should be allowed and encouraaged to play a lot more county cricket.

Did you see B Harmison bowling? It was like watching Plunkett bowl in that rigid action of his, and he has taken a bite of his brother by bowling wide long hops.

So when will Anderson, Mahmood and Flintoff be seen again in a red shirt. Usually the ECB give the players loads of time off after coming back from tours. However with the first test on May 17th the players haven't got too long to rest on their laurels. Personally I'd love to see Anderson and Mahmood back at OT a week on Sunday but something tells me it won't be that soon! So hopefully we will see them against Hampshire in the LV Champ!

The sooner the better. In my opinion England cricketers need to play MORE county cricket not less. It will only improve them.

I agree but the ECB and Fletcher have a habit of wrapping them in cotton wool hence my thread on the England board about when will they play again. Last year it was a joke they finished about now and most weren't playing again until the beginning of May!
