I'd be interested to know where Fletcher goes from here. I suspect it will be more likely an international coaching job rather than a county one.

Are you trying to give me a heart attack?

Although at least Mahmood would always be sure of getting a game.

More likely to be Yates.

Flintoff will be rested until the CC game with Hants. Wonder about the other two. One will be getting his finger sorted so that could mean an op. 6 weeks out?

I've not seen any real evidence to justify the current setup where England players rarely play for their county. It's time to move back to the way things were. With the old setup, when a player is selected for England, they are likely to miss 2 county games anyway, so should get plenty of rest.

Is that a guess about Flintoff? Anderson's finger should be fine unless he has done further damage to it. Otherwise they should have sent him home early to have it pinned. It is over 5 weeks now so should have healed itself without needing pinning.

Anyone off to OT tomorrow?

Flintoff spending another week in Barbados on holiday and he said Hants would be his first game. Also said he would have to get back into shape as he must have put on three stone. Anderson said he would need to get his finger sorted when he got home.

So another season where he misses the start as a result of an injury got on England duty. If it still isn't right why isn't he rested today?

I think Flintoff actually said that if he was having a week's holiday with his family he would be likely to put on three stone and then have to lose it.

Thank goodness Chilton is out 14 from 101 ball. If we have any chance of chasing the total down we can't have strike rates of less than 14!

Quite pathetic really. Can't justify such a slow rate ever!

16 man squad for tomorrow. Anyone else think that it is a tad excessive for a one day game?

Anyone else checked out Lancs TV yet? A good innovation but not been able to see where the ball goes is a tad annoying as are the PowerPoint like slide transitions. It also seems to be the launching pad of Mal Loye and his media training as well. Kyle might like the Tom Smith interview as he seems as obsessed with him as MF, 1000ys and I of Jimmy A!

I also noticed from the programme that there will be a Lancs cricket show on channel M (Sky 203) from 16th May which sounds interesting.

He has said he wants to carry on coaching preferably in England. I guess it might be for a county. Glamorgan don't seem to want him. I think he will end up in South Africa. I can't see him coaching for Bangladesh or the West Indies.

Tom Smith absence according to Cricinfo:

From A team to second team
Sportsmen are prone to sudden changes in fortune. The saying goes "you are only as good as your last game" but Tom Smith, Lancashire's promising seamer, who was at the Academy in Perth during the winter, didn't even get that far before Lancashire's opening Championship match. On the first morning at Edgbaston he was left out of the starting eleven in favour of Oliver Newby and sent up to Derby for the seconds. The Lancashire camp said he was lacking rhythm and that it was a tough call to pick from their crop of young seamers, but barely a month ago Smith was part of the successful England A tour to Bangladesh. Newby justified the decision with six wickets and the competition is healthy. It will only get stronger when James Anderson and Sajid Mahmood are available again.

He didn't look to happy on Sunday when he was on the balcony at OT but that might be due to the fact that he had a stomach strain so couldn't play. Might get a game against Surrey but is sure not to feature against Hants with Fred, Anderson and Mahmood all avaliable.

I got the impression that Newby did better in the pre-season games and has overtaken Smith.

If Anderson and Mahmood are back at Lancs for most of the season they are both going to struggle to get in the team. For me the first bowler out of the line up will be Hogg followed by Newby/Smith.Although if Chapple and Cork are not performing then they should not be immune from being dropped.

I see Newby more as a 4 day bowler and wouldn't have him in the one day games.

Without Newby in the 4 day game we would have 4 all rounders bowling Chapple, Cork, Smith and Hogg when we need two strike bowlers who take 50+ wickets a season.
