in order to get his job you have to be england's leading batsman for a decade, up for giving that a go?

Don't tell me Kevin Pietersen will be commentating on Sky in around 2017. Thank god I don't live in England anymore.

There's a good chance that I would fail miserably batting at Test level. Not sure how Mark Nicholas ended up with his job with that criteria

Let's have no more speculation on that front please.

Yes I'[m surprised as well. This is the main pre-Christmas event for England cricket, they should all be there. Not Gower, though, he always dodges out of any overseas series he doesn't fancy, not that anyone would notice he was missing.

Simon Hughes is settling in well now. He's also doing the post-match summary with Agnew that Boycott normally does. Where is Boycott, btw? I hope he is well.

How did Ward get such a plum role? He's rubbish

I don't mind Ward. He's a perfectly adequate anchor. I'd have him over Gower any day. And as somebody who works in cricket myself I can vouch that he has certainly been putting in the hard yards recently covering all the summer county games and all of the recent early stuff in India, so he deserves his shot at the big one.

Not sure if it is such a plum role. With the early start Sky might reckon more viewers will watch the evening highlights. Or Colvile might have refused to get up early for the money they're paying him.

Ward's good. I much prefer him to Allot or Charles.

Because it was entirely through his charm, good looks, full head of hair and fluency in the English language. Love him or loathe him, he isn't some dour ex-pro, droning on in dressing room jargon.

If someone doesn't shoot Angus Fraser soon then I will. If that's the best TMS have to offer, then they should start to look at Dermot (Twenny) Reeeve and Mark Nickelarse. Jeebus, I have never heard anyone talk for so long and say nothing unless they were standing for Parliament.

Sanath Jayasuriya is even worse than Aravinda de Silva on the mic. The other Sri Lankans are quite good but I think they are proper journalists rather than former players so that helps

Sangakkara will make an excellent commentator if he doesn't find something better to do with his life, which he probably will (if one counts law as something better). Jayasuriya is, I suspect, still too close to the dressing room in addition to simply not being very good. It was painful to hear him unable to say that the Cook lbw was a staggeringly bad decision but mutter on about it possibly being a bit unlucky or some such pusillanimous drivel.

He probably is quite insightful, it's just he can't put it into English particularly well. It's painful to hear commentators who can't speak English properly

Fair point. His English is good enough to say that the Cook decision was poor but he's never going to be able to do a Bob Willis rant on the subject.

Rather like poor old Tom Graveney on the BBC in the 1980s!

I wouldn't say Jayasuriya was a commentator but rather a guest for the commentator to chat with during lulls in the game.

Try as hard as he could Bumble couldn't get Jayasuriya to admit Harmison was a bowler SL were worried about. To SL Hoggard is England's most dangerous bowler. Panesar is someone to milk for runs and SL batsmen will enjoy Harmison's bounce.
