Ah, that celebrity show.
Apparently the snake "mistook him for a rat" lol. Seriously, that was the explanation given. In fairness, Warney did previously have his head in a container full of rats. He also recently confided about his intense dislike for Steve Waugh "the most selfish cricketer he has played with". In the '99 series in the Windies after shoulder surgery Warney got a bit of a mauling in the first few tests, particularly from Lara. When he (as Vice Capt.) went to the selection meeting to pick the team for the 4th test, Waugh told him "you're not playing" which obviously rankled him. One of the contestants then asked "did they win the match" to which Warney answered "yes, they won the match and retained the trophy"...then asked "wouldn't that vindicate his decision?"...(Warney) "yes". Though this still makes Waugh the "most selfish cricketer he has played with", in the world of Warney logic. http://www.foxsports.com.au/cricket/...e1eb9c00548cf3 There was also discussion about how humans got here. Warney offering his own theory of evolution based on his in depth understanding of the subject ("if we evolved from monkey's, why haven't they evolved..?) lol...not saying it was aliens, but...it was aliens! http://www.theguardian.com/sport/201...t-on-evolution

I thought it was well known that Steve Waugh was something of a ****? Didn't stop him being hugely successful.

In this instance he simply did his job of making tough decisions (correctly in the end). It seems to have more to do with someone considering themselves undroppable and a resulting bruised ego. Though originally being overlooked for the Captaincy probably didn't help either. Good leaders probably need to be a bit aloof and no doubt make decisions that not everyone will agree with. It seems Bradman was one of our most unpopular Captains (with his players) but it certainly didn't stop him from being successful.

Warne often refers to not being made captain when he's giving interviews. Quite a few of the players he played with are always saying what a great captain he would have made. If he had been captain instead of Ponting, I think results would have been pretty much the same. It would have been hard to lose matches with that team. I suppose the argument is that a batsman is a better captain as they are not going to be tempted to bowl themselves. Would Warne have over bowled himself if he was skipper? I think he had a quite a good understanding of the game and Clarke said he learnt a lot from him, although you wouldn't expect him to say anything different as Warne spent most of his time in the commentary box praising his captaincy skills.

I think Warney would have made an excellent tactical Captain.
For a lot of other reasons (not to do with cricket nous) I'm not sure he would have made a great leader though.

I see Warne has released a new book where he calls Ponting's decision to bowl at Egblaston the worst in his career, before going full Garth Merenghi with this section, about when John Buchanan questioned the side's commitment during the same series:

Warnie hasn't just put in blood and sweat - he's put in banned performance enhancing drugs as well.

Would really like someone to symbolically wipe their arse on the baggy green cap lol (reverently and with much respect of course). Group of grown men going on like pork chops. Some people are very good at cleaning lavatories, others are good at ball games. I know which one is really more important. It makes cricket sound like some weird religious cult the way they go on about it.

I heard a good interview with Warne on the radio last night (by Vaughan). I realise he's plugging his book and he's sharing some juicy bits, but I imagine it will be quite a good read.
I particularly liked the bit about on one Ashes Tour when they went to watch Pat Rafter play at Wimbledon. Waugh decided they should all wear their baggy greens to support him. Two players basically told him to **** off, one was obviously Warne, the other was his brother!! It seems they were quite a segregated bunch. It shouldn't surprise given what's going on now that Langer was very much in the Waugh camp with Hayden and Gilchrist. Warne generally had the support of Junior whilst McGrath floated somewhere in between. |

Warne's certainly putting himself about a bit at the moment. Anything to generate book sales. He was a great bowler but remains a grade 1 Rsole.
His latest ploy is to suggest that England should sack Root as captain and replace him with Buttler (a mate). Tell you what Shane, why not concentrate on the Aussie team? I reckon they have a few more problems than us, and that's saying something. |

Warne is a moron. I'm bored of listening to him blather on. Shut up so people remember you as a great cricketer first, not a media buffoon rentagob a la Botham, Vaughan which just reeks of desperation to stay relevant due to having no real life skills etc
My respect for Swaugh only increases by every year he declines a media role. Last edited by MRNC4.0 : 21st October 2018 at 09:47. |

Is it a good idea to pick the Australian Michael Vaughan for this committee?

I assume a shot clock would mean that each delivery needs to be bowled in a certain amount of time or the team will be penalised in some way. I've never seen it in cricket but snooker sometimes has one. While the game does need speeding up, I'm not sure this is the solution. They should just be more stringent in applying the current laws if you ask me.
