I agree, that could be an option...I don't think we'll see him for a while, though, but if Strauss continues this poor run of form much longer then he can't not be dropped.

I'm inclined to agree. I like Strauss but he can't remain in the side forever with this kind of run of low scores. It isn't that clear who would replace him though. Given that Strauss will get the 4th test of this series, at least, we might even be looking at Trescothick returning (particularly given that India's bowling strength lies in spin). Shah would be unlucky not to get another go if the slot were free too.

This won't happen because Vaughan wants to bat at 3. Strauss has to be looked at, and the options I can see are Tresco if fit and ready, or Key. Or Bell to move up and open to create the middle order space for Bopara?

Is Vaughan clearly set against opening? He's done it once at least since his demotion to the middle order (against Pakistan in the 3rd test there in 2005/6 when Strauss went home, I think) and played as opener and captain until Strauss broke into the side (when Vaughan was out injured against NZ at Lords in 2004, I think).

If we are gonna recall Key we might as well go the whole hog and give Ramps another go

I'm not advocating a recall for Key, but what are the opening batsman options? Denly and Sayers are coming through I suppose, maybe Fisher at Gloucestershire?

Id have thought Sayers is the next on the ramp though I wouldnt eb against Key having another go as I think he wasnt treated/handlked that well

But then Sayers might force Cook to take over the Tresco role, causing him to try to score too fast and causing him to lose form........

None of those sound terribly likely. Fisher is a neat joke. I had to look him up. Sayers and Denly are terribly young to be options. I assume they're less jokey but still not entirely serious.

Just an illustration of a lack of experienced and 'ready' options at the top of the order. Both Sayers and Denly look impressive, but need a full season of run scoring. As actually does Bopara in my view.

Agreed. There are other options for the middle order though, principally Shah, so Vaughan moving back up to open seems the best solution. I'd rather prefer Strauss to start hitting hundreds two or three times a series again, though.

I agree with Vaughan moving up the order but like you Id sooner have Strauss getting big scores and leave Vaughan where he is

Good performance from Saggers, and an astute signing, very much what the attack needed. As you say, more of the same in the second innings would be much appreciated.
