Thanks, that makes sense.

Interesting to see Australia have picked Maxwell and Short for these games it should improve their batting compared to the ODI's especially with Lynn probably returning from injury. Both teams resting a few players it seems with Australia missing a #8 and spearhead quick in Starc and Cummins absence.

They have different bowlers for T20s. Starc hasn't played one since Sep 2016 and Cummins Feb 2017. I think Australia like Coulter-Nile, Tye, Richardson.

Sure but no-one they've named is really suited to fill that role normally it would be Coulter-Nile but he's injured and he's not really good enough to be a #8 anyway. From that squad I'd just go with 3 specialist bowlers and rely on Short, Stoinis and Maxwell to bowl the other 8 overs.

No Root anymore so probably

1. Roy
2. Hales
3. Malan
4. Morgan
5. Stokes
6. Buttler
7. Dawson
8. Jordan
9. Willey/Plunkett
10. Rashid
11. Wood

What is Aussie likely lineup? Don’t know much about some of these guys.

Warner
Finch
Lynn
Head/Short
Maxwell
Stoinis
Carey
No idea they could go for a specialist bowler or a batsman and move Stoinis and Carey down.
Tye
Zampa
Stanlake

Their quicks are a bit up in the air as well with Coulter-Nile and to a much lesser extent Behrendorff both injured and Australia not calling up any of their big guns.

If Stokes and Plunkett are available that would be mine, although I'd have Plunkett and possibly Rashid above Curran in the batting lineup. I wouldn't mind playing Curran against Aus and Willey against NZ within that lineup as well but not particularly bothered.

Headlines - Stokes will not join England before court date.

Did anyone even have to think about it?

He would fly out play in two games and fly back for the court date and then fly back. That's 32506 miles including two sets of jet lag in 10 days.

Who will replace Plunkett in the ODIs? Ball, Roland-Jones, Sam Curran?

Do you mean in the squad or in the team?

If you mean the squad I wouldn't mind either SCurran or TRJ, conditions should be helpful to both of them especially Sam.

Another bizarre decision. Craig is not good at limited overs cricket (even considering half his matches at Taunton)

Wonder why the selectors picked the Test team so early. Crane going to New Zealand and Leach left in the West Indies.

perhaps Roland-Jones not ready. Just coming back from a long term injury being pitched straight in to an ODI series might be too much.

Iíve forgotten whoís in the squad but that seems about right. Good depth to be able to leave out Haes. Unthinkable a few months back. I like Vaughanís idea of Stokes at 3 and Root and Morgan down one.

Curran definitely deserves his place in Plunkettís absence. Very impressive white ball skills. With Plunkett getting on a bit, this could be the Xl who play in the WC.
