I know for the senior team the photo is based on experience with the most capped players sat next to the captain (for this series that ought to be Fred and Jimmy) perhaps they do the same for the A-team. However that is the case when you look at the number of caps. Starting with the most caps that order would be Solanki, Bell, Shah, Nixon, Lewis, Kirtley, Snape, Bopara, Maddy, Bresnan, Schofield and Wright.

Well the England Lions touring squad is going to be announced soon. I suppose it will be a mix of young and older players rather than the England 2nd XV
Some names that might be picked?

Batsmen - Solanki, Maddy, Key, Carberry, Wagh, Hildreth, Patel
All Rounders - Bresnan, Trego, Wagg
Spinners - Schofield, Rashid, Tredwell
Keepers - Ambrose, Davies
Fast Bowlers - Kirtley, Lewis, Plunkett, Mahmood, Jordan, Finn, Ali, Onions, Harris

The academy job has been offered to Ric Charlesworth who is currently NZ cricket's high performance director. However he has not accepted yet and is considering offers to return to hockey then the ECB are expected to appoint Mike Watkinson ahead of acting director David Parsons.

Yes, we should move on to a wicket keeping debate.

Denly and Godleman shurely? Though the latter might still be eligible for the U-19 WC, whenever that is

I think Watkinson is OK with bringing on individual players, but we are not winning matches as a team. I think a change at the top would certainly help.

Maybe Flintoff could captain the Lions tour and play as a batsman and try to get back into some kind of nick for the NZ one dayers

That's a very good idea. I don't think that would even enter the selectors' minds though.

Not a bad idea at all. Rob Key might not be too happy about that since I'm sure he'd be looking forward to a trip to Inida and Delly Belly!

I asked Flintoff if he thought that might be an idea on his official website.

Well it is just to put the idea in his head if it is not already there. Whether he replies doesn't really matter. He might only look at his site once in a blue moon or someone else might be looking after it. I do think it is a good idea though.

Well 2 weeks later and we still don't have an academy director! You'd have thought it would have been announced at the same time as the other ECB jobs. It looks like the might have gone back to the drawing board for the shortlist.

Maybe they need more time as the shortlist was pretty poor
