That happened to me a couple of years back. I did Cheltenham for the first time as a neutral (where I got a fascinating day's play for Gloucs v Worcs), then Surrey played there the following season.

I see Southport is back on the CC circuit with Lancs v Hants over August Bank Holiday weekend. I may try to do the T20 match at Rugby as it's on a Saturday and Surrey have no game.

Having studied our fixture list in more detail there's another infuriating imbalance in the distribution of CC fixtures. Two at The Oval in April and another two in September; one in mid May and another in the final week of August. So (with the Guildford fastival accounting for another fixture in June) only one four day game at The Oval in a period of around fourteen weeks during the best part of the summer. Hopefully that will be a thing of the past after this season when the T20 competition ceases to have its own mid-summer window.

Is there a specific reason for going to Rugby School, e.g. Edgbaston unavailable due to international commitments?

I'm not saying the place is posh, but it's got a f***ing polo field!:

By the way, I did a bit of nosing around county membership prices this aft, and if I have this right, if bought by the end of the year Kent offer a 105 country membership - you must live at least 75 miles from Canterbury - which includes admission to Essex, Hampshire and Sussex home games as well, as long as they are not playing Kent.

That has to be outrageous value by any measure - if you had plenty of free time and decided to spend the season just watching those four counties you could enjoy it for almost nothing in terms of admission costs.

Yup, that's the case, Paul. There is a caveat which highlights an 'expectation that location will allow limited visitation'. This is down to a bit of a kerfuffle a couple of years ago when it was revealed that some 'out of county' members, supposedly residing at the other end of the country, were managing to see 30+ days' home cricket per season. I've never pulled that stunt myself but I know someone who has.

Alternatively, Essex's full membership comes in at 155 next summer, and of course, offers the same reciprocal arrangements with Hants, Kent and Sussex. I've known a couple of Kent fans who have switched to Essex, simply to save fifty quid a year.

It would actually be possible for me to watch unlimited Essex, Hants & Sussex CC cricket for free next season. The 2011 Kent pass bore no year as it was designed to be recycled each season - the county simply reactivates it when you pay your annual subs, enabling the barcode to be recognised by the Kent stewards' readers. However, because the other clubs aren't part of the same technology, they have no way of reading the barcode. They are obliged, therefore, to accept the flash of a dateless card as evidence of Kent membership and won't actually know whether the bearer has renewed his or her subs.

Hampshire has added Gloucester to its reciprical arrangement but I think my membership cost about 140. Still very good value if you have all the time in the world!

Yes, that was a nice little surprise in the Gloucestershire pack recently. Will definitely pop down to a neutral day at the Rose Bowl at some point during the summer.

Well let me know when

BTW Hampshire have already announced pre season friendlies - I've put the dates on the Hants thread.

Are you turning into a Yorkshireman?

This is the sort of post I'd expect to see on a YCCC forum

That's the first time I've seen Snow at The Oval since 1975.

can anybody on this board tell me (or think) why warwickshire are not using the rather splendid stratford ground?
stratford seems have been overlooked for a few years now.
maybe kim or warley could shed some light on this?

I don't think they've played there since they rolled over Hampshire in about 2 days circa 2005, losing lots of money in the process. Clubs generally aren't too willing to take the hit with outgrounds as they are a risk if the weather is poor or it finishes quickly.
