It is a shame that he has never really managed to get over being sacked as coach by the PCB. I know Geoff Lawson was interested in getting him on board as a batting consultant, but that would never have worked out.

Still, he hasn't plumbed the depths that Sarfraz Nawaz has, who sees a match fixing conspiracy in every other game that Pakistan lose, seemingly.

With Shoiab what i find is quite interesting is the pace he keeps up. His bowling hardly falls under 90mph, even though he does bowl in very short spells, every ball is up around 95-100mph. You see the likes of Tait, Bond their bowling speed does naturally vary over 10mph mark. At 32 hes still banging them in at 90mph+.

I don't know what games you've been watching, but the ones I've seen recently, he barely touches the 90mph. In fact in the last ODI against South Africa he was bowling at around 85mph on average, he still got wickets at that speed. I'm going to pay careful attention during this series to see how often he touches the 95mph mark. I don't think he will do at all. He might get to 90mph, but not much higher than that if he does.

I didn't expect him to get to that speed on the last game he played as i don't think he's bowled that much at all, but by the Indian series i wouldn't be surprised if he was bowling constantly around 90mph.

i dont think shoaib should bowl above 95... he is more effective with his 85-94mph speed and more over reduces the chance of breakdown..

I don't think Shoaib should bowl at all... in todays ODI he took 2 wickets and was not much good at containing the Indian batsmen. We need a new plan.. and we need it quick!

He was excellent along with the other bowlers, problem is KAMRAN AKMAL WAS PATHETIC AGAIN, which cost Akhtar Gambhir's wicket very early.

Sorry i had missed that part.... i cannot believe Akmal.. why must we persist with him anyways? i am sure there must be some keeper out there who is better?

I'll tell you who is better, Mohahammed Yousuf Shoaib Malik and Younis Khan. Anyone is better than him. They had that kid Khalid Latif, but didnt give him a chance.

Akmal's keeping has been shoddy for well over a year now. I wouldn't quite describe him as being as poor as Parthiv Patel, but he's getting there. I acknowledge his batting can be useful to Pakistan, but he misses too many chances for it to compensate.

I don't know much about who the alternatives are, though Sarfraz Ahmed's name gets mentioned a lot by Pakistani fans. He doesn't have a lot of FC experience, though. Still, Akmal's keeping has probably reached the point where Sarfraz can't do much worse. Yes, things can always get worse, no matter how bad they appear, but Akmal's keeping really is awful.

I like the Pakistan's idea of 15 contracts. Sami, Akhtar and Nazir have been left out. Why would Kaneria be a C and Tanvir a B? I would have thought new players would start in the lower category and work their way up.

Category A
Khan
Malik
Misbah
Asif
Yousuf

Category B
Akmal
Tanvir
Afridi
Butt
Gul

Category C
Reyman
Arafat
Iftikhar
Kaneria
Alam

Presumably that's because Danish isn't likely to play many ODIs and possibly because he's a little rubbish in tests too.

The best news is that Shoaib Akhter has finally been given the boot. Misbah is the Vice Captain and Shoaib is gone!!! no central contract no more B.S and hopefully no more of the rifts he keeps creating....

Even though he hasn't been given a contract doesn't mean he won't be selected if he can show commitment and form. He probably feels just his name should get him into the team. The last time I saw him he looked terrible. Bags under his wild looking eyes and really chunky. It's a shame as he is such a talented bowler.

Well apparently FBU the report given to the PCB by the coaches with the team spoke of his disrespectful behavior... the guy has a major attitude problem and his habit of creating rifts with young players in the team So the PCB has finally decided to get rid of him once and for all. I agree with you that he had a lot of talent but he wasted it all by doing drugs IMO thats where the downhill slide started.

So you think that's it. We won't ever see Akhtar bowl again for Pakistan?
