Would the real PCB please stand up?

Lovely article on the issues surrounding Pakistan in terms of staging international cricket there rather than hoping across the gulf to the UAE.

Thanks for posting that, very interesting read. Pakistan seems to be even more doomed than I thought- the stat about the Taliban controlling a third of Karachi is particularly alarming.

Not related to modern day cricket. However for posterity, footage of one of Wasim Akram's finest spells!

What are your thoughts about a possible return to the national side for Mohammed Amir? I'm of the thinking, everyone deserves a second chance. But it would follow him and the team around possibly even more than we imagine it might.

I'm 50-50 on the matter. But surely he should be allowed if he sees out his punishment?

Amir has the fact that he was young and naive and everyone can make mistakes. From the POV you'd say that he should have a 2nd chance. Butt and Asif though: no.

Butt especially I think had a harsher punishment, so there's close to zero chance he'd ever be back.

Why disrupt the side who are doing very nicely now they are playing to win?

My very favourite international player ever. Some talk of Salisbury but leg spinning pies just don't compare to 90 mph swinging pies.

Tempted to have a bet on Pakistan playing Zimbabwe (with Taylor gone, of course) but backing a side with Sami in it? Feels wrong.

Looks like Pakistan could start playing in Qatar instead of the UAE.

Almost a year late on this but this is in the news again with butt and Asif cleared to return in September by the ICC.

As a fan, I would never like to see butt and Asif play international cricket again, as magical as asifs bowling was. Butt for abusing a position of authority and Asif for serially offending on various misdemeanors.

But rationally I can make no argument against them playing again if the Pakistani board and players are happy for them to play again. They were caught, handed a punishment and have done their time so to speak.

Amir is a different case. Whilst I don't think he was some innocent kid, I can very much sympathize with a young player coming in an environment where this sort of activity was widely prevalent. He deserves a second chance and has hopefully learned from this most harshest of lessons. He'll have to show tremendous mental strength though as the first no-ball and the jeering will start.

From the sound of it Butt and Asif will be considered for international selection again once they have gone through community service and councilling.

I can't imagine Butt getting a recall. He was never that great to start with and as the ringleader would surely be a bad influence to return to the dressing room

The players and the PCB had been negotiating a rise in the monthly retainer with many options, such as ending the performance based contract. The players, however, objected to this. Instead, they agreed to a contract which besides the monthly retainer, gave the players an opportunity to make extra money by scoring a hundred, taking four or more wickets, or having an exceptional series. The players also agreed to continue with the 10% raise offered earlier this year by the PCB.

Had to laugh at this today ..

Mohammad Hafeez c †Anamul Haque b Mohammad Amir 1

Hafeez, who said he wouldn't play with Amir in his team, comes across him in the opposition.

It's funny cause Hafeez is in the wrong?
