Jimmy Neesham signs for Wellington. The next in a list of recent players to seek cricketing redemption in the Capital.

He used to post on CricketWeb before he made first class cricket. Seemed like a smart and decent guy. Hope he can make it back to international honours.

No contract for Jesse Ryder. Bizarre given how well he played for CD last year. In fact, bloody ridiculous. Still a few contracts left to allocate, hopefully someone picks him up. Such a talented cricketer.

Do you know much about Tom Bruce? Sussex have picked him up for the T20 Blast based on some second team cricket but his first class stats look good too.

Hasn't been seen for Essex this year either. Perhaps he can get a county contract.

He left Essex in 2016.

Wagner and Amir were the overseas players last year.

Siddle and Wagner this year.

Didn't Jesse play as a local?

Don't think so.

This suggests he was signed as an overseas as well

Yeah, young big hitter. Made his name in NZ in the T20 tournament here and he can certainly hit a long ball. Has a pretty good first class record for an NZ batsman and I'd be surprised (assuming NZ keep playing Tests) if he didn't get a go at some point - either when Taylor retires or when Nicholls fails.

Plunket Shield started today.

Who would have thought that Trent Boult would be top scorer in the first dig (by some way) up at Mt Maunganui? In fact, top scorer in both 1st innings were the #10s.

Pretty useful line up for Northern. Flynn - Cooper - Williamson - Brownlie - Watling - de Grandhomme - Mitchell - Sodhi - Wagner - Boult - Baker.

8 NZ internationals in there. Still got rolled for 136.

Great ball from young Nathan Smith to get BJ Watling.

Double ton for ex-pat Yarpie wannabe BlackCap Devon Conway today.
Single ton for ex-pat Yarpie wannabe BlackCap Malcolm Nofal today.

The percentage of South Africans playing in the Plunket Shield is definitely increasing. I blame (?) the success of Grant Elliott.

Conway has probably the best First Class record of any of the South African exports. Qualifies in 2020 (by which time he'll be 29). Has a reasonable chance of some international caps, I'd think.

He has also played for my indoor cricket team once and he seemed to be scared of the indoor variant of the game. Which seemed a bit odd.
