One-day wins for Victoria and Western Australia in the last few days - WA top of the table with two wins out of two so far.

Well a slightly better effort by SA in the one day match against Vic, but still not impressive given the generally poor nature of the opposition. Time for a rant methinks:

Preparation.
I notice many other teams seem to have a more intense preseason than we do, they get involved in various tournaments and often have a high quality intrastate competitions. SA often seems underdone at the start of the year, and we have had a trend lately when we only start winning games in the second half of the season. Also disappointing this year was that we had two of our more valuable players in disciplinary trouble before a ball was even bowled.

Selection.
I guess I wasn’t too unhappy with the selection of the one-day side (the Pura Cup side is a different matter though). Overall a pretty young side, with only two players over 30, and those two didn’t perform all that well given the experience/expectations. Elliot is a definite concern – he was good in the one-day comp last year but absolutely hopeless in the four day comp, and in general hasn’t performed to expectations. Dizzy is another worry at the moment. I went to the four day game, and his first few spells were unimpressive, he looked really flat and the batsmen were putting him away at will. He came back much better in the afternoon in that game, but at the moment it looks like it takes him 10 overs just to warm up. It will be interesting to see how they perform in the upcoming match against Tasmania, hopefully with Boof back in the side we can pinch a win.

I'll save my Pura Cup rant for another day...

I thought the Vic bowling was OK. For their age of course.

Surely a supporter of a state full of old men as they are the only talented people in the state isnt taking a shot at an attack led by a 21 y.o and 23 y.o?

I think one of either Harwood or Lewis must have lied to you about his age...

Its that competition that the redbacks dress up in lovely whites, chase the ball for 2 1/2 days and roll over twice within 1 day

Just realised that our next couple of fixtures in Tasmania this weekend coincide with the three day tour match against Sri Lanka. So if Tait gets selected for that we will again be without our best bowler.

Chairmans XI doesnt usually involve any domestic players does it?

Thought it was usually a bunch of nobodies and the odd old player from WA when the game was played there

In tonights domestic action the Bulls would feel right at home with constant rain interruptions as the retirement home XI is cruising along

QLD saved from embarrasment against possibly the weakest domestic lineup to ever play in the Ford Ranger Cup, even the redbacks could have beaten that mob

The state competition in Australia is clearly far stronger than the County Championship.

Good point HDNB, and the stats so far seem to support that assertion. Bollinger's strike rate in the English list A comp (s) last year was 1 wicket every 35 balls, in Aus so far it's 1 wicket every 45 balls. Suggests batsmen in Australia are 28% better than their English counterparts.

Could I possibly pass off my confusing one day cricket with first class cricket as a ploy to become an England selector?

I think its 3 hard that needs that verification. 3 hard if I had my way I'd give you the opportunity to become England's chairman of selectors, cos after all even if you directly tried to sabotage the team you couldn't do a worse job.
