Was he not in the same team as Willey and Brooks or is too young overlap with those two?

His Cricinfo profile says he made his debut at 17, so that's 2012 which was Brooks final season before moving to Yorkshire. Willey moved three years later.

Bloody Yorks and their 'chequebook' ripping Willey, Brooks, TKC and Plunkett away from their counties. Thought it was only Notts that did that?

Plunkett had reached the end of the road with Durham and was glad of a new start with Yorkshire. As Duckett showed Yorkshire's chequebook can't compete with Notts.

It's usually Surrey.

Mike Newell says it's not about money, allegedly. This suggest that Northeast didn't fancy Nottingham preferring the Saffer project at Hantsvaal. Maybe Duckett liked Trent Bridge more than Headingley, who wouldn't?! Maybe he won't move house either.

There could be any number of factors beyond which county offers the highest salary. Surrey lost Dom Sibley to Warwickshire because he wanted to bat in the top three, even though he was holding a regular place at 5, and Steve Davies to Somerset because he wanted to resume wicketkeeping duties several years after choosing to become a specialist batsman. Surrey didn't want to lose either, of them.

Richard Gleeson to Lancashire with immediate effect.

As Northants have been stripped of their best assets, they're having to build a new 'Moneyball' side.

I'm going to be cheering for them in every match from now on.

The process underway already as Northants have signed Zimbabwe quick Blessing Muzarabani on a Kolpak registration.

Probably a good signing for all sides.

He'll get paid, Northants will get a talented young bowler and Zimbabwe will get a much better bowler back in a few years' time.

There seems to be a fair bit of discontent on the Northants section on the View from the Boundary forum, with some saying there should be change at the top.

I feel that would be a terrible move and David Ripley and his team must be allowed to continue their project.

Northants must have the smallest wage bill of all the counties, and on top of that can't do anything to stop the departures of Duckett and Gleeson.

True, it's been a wholly unsuccessful season, but with such thin resources the club will have to endure some years like this. One could say it's a miracle that they can compete at all.

Ripley has led the club to two T20 trophies and a Division 2 promotion. It's now a matter of starting out again, and he's shown an uncanny knack of unearthing players - Ricardo Vasconcelos, who is just 20 years old, has already shown his worth, and Ben Curran could be a great capture.

Blessing Muzarabani has already been recruited to bolster the bowling and could also be a smart acquisition.

It would be great if Northants could get a couple more experienced players on board, but I don't know how far finances stretch - not far, though. Someone such as Arun Harinath, who is out of contract at Surrey at the end of this season, would be a good player to have at the top of the order.

Great call on Harinath, but I expect Surrey will want to retain him.

They were actively looking to move Gleeson on rather than even looking to keep him. According to the cricinfo article.
Although he was not out of contract at Northants, he had a release clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if compensation terms were met. It is understood the cash-strapped club had advertised his availability and received a substantial payment from Lancashire.

It's very Moneyball but I hope they do realise that if you finish bottom you don't get a higher draft pick in cricket!

Steven Crook to retire at the end of the season. It’ll certainly be a new-look, more youthful side in 2019.

Tom Sole and Charlie Thurston have signed contracts.

Sole, who had injury problems this summer, has a 2-year deal.

Thurston has signed on for 2019, his first proper deal with the club, I think. He rounded off this season with 237 when skippering the 2s v Scotland 'A'.

Here's hoping that 2019 proves to be Thurstontastic!

Northants have recruited South African international batsman Temba Bavuma for the period of Championship cricket from mid-May to mid-July. Potentially that looks like a very good signing.
