Chris Wright at Warwickshire.

Ben Slater at Notts might be another example.

Did Irani actually ever play for Lancs?

I'm too young to remember Childs' pre-Essex career, but like Peter Such he had a long and successful career after moving to Essex.

Well, I forgot Hemphrey. How could I do that?

Yes I know it 'can', but what I said was that the instances were probably less than 1 in 20 so hardly noticeable. The fact that we have to turn back 25 years to Ronnie Irani as an example underlines it hardly happens.

Collectively as a forum we are struggling to name even one a season. But each year over 20 swap counties. Can yes, but not common place.

yes List A and first class but doubt it was more than a handful of times each format.

Those were just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are more. The basic point is that it's possible. In the context of this thread, if one such as Carberry can use new surroundings to turn himself from a journeyman into one of the country's top batsmen and bag an England tour, there has to be hope that Duckett and Clarke will return to their county form of a couple of years ago.

Billy Root signs for Glamorgan. Makes sense in the context of the new signings, good luck to him.

Apropos of nothing i've noticed that Billy Root is playing Hockey for Sheffield Hallam who are in the second tier of the National League. Scored in each of his last 3 games as well.

2019: A championship game at Welbeck (I guess because of the World cup) and CC games at Newport (isle of Wight, looks great)https://newclose.org/
and Scarborough and Tunbridge Wells but no CC cricket at TB for 2 months from the middle of July.

I don't know if he has an Australian parent or something because he evidently emigrated with ease and was apparently Australia qualified already in 2015 and he plays domestically as an "Australian" player. Apparently this would complicate matters if he returns to England because he can't play as a domestic player both in Australia and England. Though back in 2015 he said ""I’d happily come back here (England) for five or six months of the year. If there’s a way I can do that, I will."
Charlie Hemphrey has just signed for Glamorgan on a two year contract:

Quoted as saying: "Essentially to be told when I was 19 at Kent I wasn't good enough, to come back 10 years later and to make a success of it would be rewarding, it's going to be a great summer."

Not sure why this earlier discussion about an ex-Kent player was on the Notts thread

It all started with the news about Will Fraine moving from Notts to Yorks.

Blimey. Just think how many Yorkies will turn up when they find out that it's only a quid to get in...

I've never worked out why counties dont do more of this sort of thing, especially for four day cricket where nobody at all turns up.

excellent initiative.

i see there are six other 50 over games on the same day.
why not all counties do the same and charge the 1 pound admission for a charity of their choice and get huge crowds for all games.
it is a sunday, you never know, you may get some people going who don't normally go.

Still no overseas announced, nor a second T20 overseas come to that. There was some talk about Pattinson, but whether Cricket Australia would want him playing county cricket prior to the Ashes, given his injury record, is doubtful.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Brathwaite return.

Braithwaite looked a good fit when he played at The Oval. I always think it's best to trust someone you know rather than taking a punt on a bigger name.

Yes, plus there can't be many good international players around who won't have IPL/CPL/World Cup commitments either.

Indeed.

Wouldn't be a bad thing if we didn't bring anyone in but I think Notts will want someone for the second half of the season when England call ups kick in - Broad will be called up and Clarke could be too.

Historically Notts have not been in the habit of bringing in an OS just for the sake of it. The squad has increased in numbers and quality so they could go with what they have.....we will see.

Given that Peter Moores went on record to state that the squad was too small last season and that at present, without an overseas player, it is even smaller in number than it was in 2018, I'd be amazed if Notts didn't sign one, although obviously the 'ins' (Slater, Duckett, Chappell, Clarke) are of higher quality than the 'outs' (Root, Wessels, Fraine, Milnes).
