Somewhat lower! The moss garden (or "lawn") is certainly very green and moist.

Unseasonably warm with gorgeous sunshine down here in the South East. Just perfect for those going off to watch county cricket over the next few days.

Oh...hold on, there isn't any.

I quite like the season being stretched. Last season started in late March, which was pushing it a bit, although I don't think there were that many problems with weather like this season.

I'm happy with an early to mid April start and a late September finish. That's still only five and a half months a year of cricket. The footy season runs from August till May, unless it's a WC year in which case it never really ends.

I don't think "everyone" moans, but as with most things those who are unhappy moan and those who are happy just get on with enjoying the cricket.

I actually ran a poll on here on the subject of when the season should begin in 2016, and while 16 respondents is hardly conclusive, the results were:

It's fine as it is - April 1, or even March 31 - bring it on! 37.50%
The start of April is too early - mid-April is ideal. 6.25%
April is too early for cricket - start as late as possible. 25.00%
March cricket? Bring it on! Start when the clocks go forward! 31.25%

I think the simple fact in any case is that we will continue to see early April starts / late September finishes for the foreseeable future. With players now on decently-paid round-the-year contracts, there's just no way they are going to be left kicking their heels throughout April. The North-South series and associated county-warm-up games abroad in March, plus Hampshire and Kent choosing to compete in the West Indies' domestic cup back in February shows that clubs really want their players out of the gym as early as possible.

Did I vote?

Anyhow, I'm derailing this thread so will leave it with my view that I'd rather have fewer, better quality four day games than what we currently have. I'm no ECB stooge, I just think the way the English domestic season is structured is a mess.

Notts are back to their usual form. Stick the Yorkies in and let them get to 25-0 from 5!

Some debut!

I had thought Notts let Yorkshire get 100 too many. At 6-2 I'm thinking it might have been 150 too many!

About Notts batting what's happened to Root minor? Did well last season now disappeared.

Ollie Pope achieves his second f-c century as Surrey rack up a big lead at The Oval. He clearly enjoys the Hampshire bowling, his first f-c ton coming at The Rose Bowl.

Whisper it quietly but a chance Somerset might win first champo game of the season for the first time since before the London Olympics.

Hants' target at the Oval is 472 from a minimum 143 overs.

So far in the match Amar Virdi has faced one ball, not scored a run, not been dismissed, and not bowled a ball.

Excellent. Nice start to the season. The last wicket was a comical shambles from worcs. Magoffin jogged a couple. Could have done with a canter.

Nail biting finish at Essex. Lancs 9 down with 39 to get.

1908, 1948 or 2012?

Earned his keep with two very nice wickets this afternoon, though.

Porter again the man for the occasion, bowling Mennie to finish the match with figures of 9 for 80.

A good win. Lancs were the only county Essex failed to beat during last season's triumphant campaign.

First time Essex have beaten Lancashire in the championship since 1997. Despite it being the 8th season they have been in the same division. Lancs have beaten Essex 7 times in that time (including twice in 1998 and 99 before the championship was split into two divisions).

Chanderpaul 20 runs in 4 innings. You wonder how long Chapple will allow that to continue. (Hameed has 31)

To think Harmer was playing in the Central Lancashire League in 2015
