He is indeed. But then so was Abell...

Gutted for tres. The injury looked bad and couldn't walk so just started to slog. I really hope that he isn't done for the season. He is older than me and my twisted ankle in September has been a nightmare and only just running again (although the MRI showed I had broken it about 20 years ago but didn't know so it would be worse I guess).

Yeah. It was me who made him captain when he was 22 and I was the one commentating when he scored a ton on sky and I chose him as young wisden schools cricketer of the year in 2013. Amazingly I also picked his school team and picked him at 14 where he was the youngest ever pupil to reach 1000 runs. In his last season he averaged 193 with the bat and took 19 wickets at 15. Scored 95 on debut four years ago.

Yeah just me who rates him.

Notts batting giving this away. Five batsmen out completely unnecessarily, not being remotely close to dismissed by good bowling.

Still, there does look to be a bit in the pitch.

A side with 3 current Test batsmen gets bowled out for 50. Is that a record?

Three of the top 15 in the world.

Well batted Bartlett. Decent ton.

Now don't fold please Somerset.

Interesting that Lancs left out Hameed on what is clearly a good batting pitch. So no chance to give the young lad some confidence. Preferance given to playing Davies who lasted one session behind the stumps and ending up at third man / square leg after lunch. They couldn't possibly have picked a player who was already injured, could they?

I can only look enviously at the blue sky out of the office window and wish I was.

Yes, I was there today. An astonishingly compelling day and my friends looked after me like I was royalty. Not the most wickets I've seen in one day but pretty close. An excellent spell of consistent seam bowling by Little Chef augmented by some full on Siddle growling. Good to see two other youngsters, Coad and Lawrence, impress when Essex took the crease. Full credit to Yorks for deciding to take the fight to Essex by way of promoting Bluey to open in their second dig - it was a richly entertaining salvo and may have paved the way for the visitors to take a very handy lead.

County Championship cricket - it can't be beat.

Gutted for tres to have broken his metatarsal. Fingers crossed we see him in Somerset couloirs again. If we don't then what a way for him to finish. The word legend is thrown about far too easily but he is one. Wouldn't it be amazing if we could win the title for him?

Testing times ahead though. Tres, Byrom, overton and Davey is already a worrying injury list. The wicket off the last ball last night could be a killer as it opens Gregory up to face Jimmy with a relatively new but and we are obviously a man down second innings.

I wonder if Banton will get a go for tres. He has been scoring runs for fun in the seconds.

Anderson still in pre-season warm-up mode: 26-7-91-0

Has a full touring side ever been dismissed for less than 50 by a county?

Essex, when they were dismissed for 20ao, had Westley, Shah, Rutherford and Foster in the side.

Essex 8 down. if Yorkshire win after being bowled out for 50 in their first innings would that be a record?

Somerset in a bit of trouble here. The match is set up for a brilliant third innings collapse. We lost vs lancs last season from well ahead. Tres being injured is far from ideal. Need a great spell either side of lunch.

What a comeback by Yorkshire to win comfortably at Chelmsford after the first innings collapse!
This Harry Brook could be one to watch for the not too distant future.

Last season I took the kids horse racing on the final day of an early season match between lancs and Somerset. My phone hardly stopped sending wicket alerts in two hours and we were thrashed. Fingers crossed we don't get a repeat. We are effectively 12 behind for 1. We need to bat past tea. Come on boys.
