It's the AGM on Saturday. First bacon baguettes of the season and a chance to have a look at the ground.

I was going to go, but it's United v Liverpool, and there is some priority given to that.

Loye will be waiting with bated breath on Vaughan's hamstring. Graveny said they would pick from the Academy but the BBC site said that Loye was likely to be called up if needed.
I think Brown should get a chance in the first team if Loye is called up. |

It'll probably be Horton (if haven't released him) push Law upto 3 with Horton 4 and Sutton at 5, they won't risk him, especially at the start of the season.

So the 'Greased Lightning' thread title wasn't a winner, then?

At the Lancashire AGM today Mike Atherton was elected a Vice-President.
At the beginning his name was read out in the list of apologies, I couldn't understand why when he never comes anyway. All was revealed when the Vice President proposal came up. (Actually it was on the agenda but I hadn't bothered to read it!) The proposer said that Michael was regrettably not able to be here today. Not unreasonable, given that he is in the West Indies. Both proposer and seconder said some very nice things about Ath's career, and his election was carried unanimously. Pretty good for someone who has no time for County Cricket. ![]() |

Why would anyone want to go to a county side's AGM?

I don't always go. The first time I went was when there was a big controversy over John Crawley and I wanted to hear what the committee had to say. Then last year there was the fuss about the proposed move and an Ashes test going to Cardiff, plus everyone was cross about Cross.
No particular reason this year but it brings the season a bit nearer. |

One member commented that it had been an excellent season, so Mike Watkinson stood up and gave his summary. As usual they blamed the rain, and nobody said that if they sharpened themselves up when it wasn't raining they might do a bit better. I didn't feel confident enough to say this myself, though. There was more discussion about the sun in September. (And I don't mean the pub in Burnage). Could we start half an hour earlier? We already do. Could we start half an hour earlier than that? No. Could they re-lay the square north-south instead of east-west? No, it was tried in 1926 or 1962 or sometime and there was a problem with the sight screen in front of the pavilion. Anyway it would take ages to bed in, etc etc. The main issues were the amendments to the composition of committees and amendments re membership which you will have received anyway, and a lot more mundane stuff that I have forgotten. Not a memorable AGM this year. I enjoyed the compliments to Atherton. Also, Sir Denis Landau, the retiring president, mentioned one of his highlights as presenting Jimmy Anderson with his county cap and being pleased at his progress, saying that the best is yet to come. |

Well I wasn't going to the match, but I was heading to my local tavern to watch it, shows how 'tuned in' the Lancs committee is by arranging the AGM with such a big football match on the same date. Did MW mention anything about the youngsters, who were developing well? Who are potential stars? Will he be using more youngsters? Any plans of a backup overseas player if Murali or Hodge pull out?

Yes, Watkinson did mention the youngsters but made no individual assessments, just listed a few of them, and didn't pick out any in particular. He said he was pleased that Kyle Hogg was back on track. Nothing about the overseas players except a bit of humorous bragging that Lancs have 5 players in the World Cup (6 with Loye on standby) and hoping that Australia and SL leave the competition early so that Hodge and Murali can be back at Lancs early season. |

How long did the meeting last MF - I went to one at Lancs many years ago and realised I should have taken a sleeping bag!

I guess it was a combination of the football and also nothing controversial to talk about this year. |

Time for a boost up the board. Lancs returned from their pre-season tour of South Africa with good results winning 5/7 games, you can see video footage of their tour on the website. Also Lancs will be playing two friendly games against Durham at OT on 11/12 April with free admission if anyone is interested in going.

Team for the first match - it's been so long I have forgotten who is around. Hodge, Murali, Flintoff, Anderson and Mahmood will still be in the West Indies. I would rather see Loye open and Chilton come in at number three.
1 Chilton 2 Sutcliffe 3 Loye 4 Law 5 Brown 6 Sutton 7 Chapple 8 Cork 9 Hogg 10 Smith 11 Keedy |
