I think that if Robbo is unsuccessful in signing a Kolpak bowler I think Sussex will make a move for Billy. But that it would be Kirtley who would start.

Hoping for a sub-300 average from him next year?

From how many matches was that though? Kirtley has a proven track record for Sussex having taken 897 wickets for the county.

Kirtley would certainly start ahead of Taylor if he was at Hampshire! Well ahead.

I meant Kirtley would start ahead of Taylor were he to re-sign for Sussex.

We've got planning permission for a second exit from The Rose Bowl!

Rather more worryingly, I heard Alec Stewart speak at a dinner last week and he intimated Warne isn't coming back to Hampshire! Couldn't draw him further on the comment though, except for him to say "Don't believe everything you hear."

It's getting to the point where I'm not really that bothered to be honest. Every winter there's always this will he/won't he over whether or not he'll be returning.

I can't say I'm too happy that he's going to miss the start of the reason to play in that Indian Twenty20 thing, especially as he doesn't even play Twenty20s for us!

I would worry less if we had a decent spinner ready to take over from him. There's one on the way through the ranks, of course, but not ready yet.

Sounds like Warne is committing to 2008, except for Twenty20 of course where his priorities change quite substantially:

Yeah, I first had rumours about that about six weeks ago.

Funny that he doesn't mind missing our Twenty20s but is perfectly happy to play in the ICL and miss some potentialy crucial Championship games...

Rod Bransgrove wants an emphasis on Twenty20 this year. Perhaps it will be a good way to bring a new captain on - it's Warne's last season with Hampshire after all.

Well Mascarenhas and Pothas captained the Twenty20s last year and Pothas did one Championship game.

Benham and Adams have been mentioned as potential captains but Adams only plays Championship and Benham is still yet to establish himself. I think I read somewhere that Carberry was vice-captain in the England Performance Squad as well.

I expect that Katich will come back in 2009 and be handed the captaincy...

My feeling is that Nic Pothas will get the captaincy.

I wouldn't be a fan of that to be honest, never liked keepers being captains.

What happened in the Championship match that Pothas captained in?
