The Kent XI which was bowled out for 115 today included only five homegrown players, augmented by Saffers, Kiwis, Aussies with Italian passports and imports poached from Somerset, Leics and Hants.

There is actually nothing wrong with that - other than the sanctimonious hypocrisy of Kent elitists who have the brassneck to tell Notts that they should "invest in their own talent".

The Notts XI today inclued seven players who have never played for any county other than Notts!!!

Possibly, the top 4-5 have been pretty rubbish in the second half of the season. Fantastic from the skipper, what a way to sign off, and much credit to Billy Root who has shown his metal and could be a real player.

Libby concerns me the most, he has simply not kicked on against Div 2 attacks. Pujara will not be back next year, looks hopeless if there is any lateral movement.

Assuming we do scrape second, and its not a given...

Coughlan seems like a signing for white ball cricket but I don't know much about him to be fair. I think we need an O/S batsmen next year, and someone else at least.

Batting

Hales (50% of the time unless he gets back in the test side), Samit, Riki, Libby, Root, Moores and Mull. Wow, thats it!

Looks weak as most of them only excel in white ball cricket. We need a grinder at the top of the innings and star O/S batsmen at 3-4. Christ knows who.

The bowling looks decent, with the exception of spin of course.

Bowling

Fletch, Ball (50% of the time unless he becomes a test player), Footitt, Broad (rarely), Gurney, Wood, Hutton, Carter, Kitt and Mull.

Says the haughty ego who so looks down on the rest of us more humble cricket-lovers on cricket 24/7 that he wrote on here that he would not discuss anything with me because I have "nothing to contribute".

Take no notice of him, YAMS and kpnuts. You really, really could not make this guy up if you were writing a Harry Enfield sketch ...lol

Pot, Kettle, Black

To have a discussion you need to some semblance of the facts as apposed to throw away remarks. Remarks that are so wide of the mark, they make Steve Harmison's first delivery in 06/07 look like an absolute jaffa!

If it makes you feel better, carry on old chap.

But it looks as if you simply can't answer the points I made about Notts recruitment "strategy". Probably because they were 100% accurate.

Oh dear oh dear. Best ignore him, Rigs - he just can't help behaving like an arrogant schoolmaster chastising a classroom and he always has to have the last word.

Pot. Kettle. Black, you say - and you are spot on.

I know him and he's a Kent supporter, unfortunately, and as such taking the high moral ground on player recruitment is rank hypocrisy. In this final round of matches I believe the Kent side that was bowled out for a pitiful 115 yesterday contained five homegrown players. I think Notts have seven in the team currently playing at Hove and could have had nine if Ball and Hales had been available?

Notts have played some great cricket in all three formats this season and it's just sour grapes to sneer at their success and try to pretend that is is in some way illegitimate.

Congratulations, Nottinghamshire.

It seems Read adopted the same approach as he did in the Cup Final - I'm not bloody well leaving until this job is done !

Cheers '77. And yes, I think you've summed it up pretty well there!

Excellent recovery from Read and Root - I thought Northants were nailed on and you'd need the rain. Also lots of credit to the bowlers for squeezing the total past the follow-on target and making the most of what appears an extremely benign pitch.

In all in all, Notts have had an amazing season, it just seems a bit odd that the one thing most of us expected to happen (promotion) nearly didn't but then they go and win the two white ball cups.

Read could not have finished on a better note. Next season is going to be very tough without him and all of the other players that have left or retired. Staying in div one and another decent tilt at white ball silverware would do me.

Its ok WAK. As someone who has spent the last 8 years watching players progress from u11 to 2nds, I am pretty confident I am nearer to the truth than your 'friend' here.

Are you guys expecting to sign another keeper as first choice or give Moores a go? Would seem like a lot of pressure to put him under, but I can't think of any particularly compelling potential signings. Plus you want an opener, O/S batsman and maybe another top order player too by the looks.

Billings fits the bill. He's out of contract at Kent and his agent has so far instructed him not to sign a new contract while he seeks better offers at a higher level - financially and skill-wise - than Kent can currently offer.

He's a very ambitious young man and is looking at the recent moves by the likes of Jennings, Stoneman etc and thinking he needs to be scoring runs in Div One if his international career is not going to collapse as the likes of Ben Foakes overtake him.
