Of course, people will highlight that there's always been a drink culture in English cricket but when was the last time it had three incidents over such a short period of time? In the internet age of instant photos and instant headlines players need to be more savvy then they are. Maybe players got away with more in the old days. Nevertheless, we are told that adapt or die is the new mantra.

I dunno, back in the day you never saw Fred Trueman without a pint in his hand off the field, and that was during the lunch break! It's not the 'drinking culture' that's the problem, it is just that they are such finely tuned athletes they can't hold their drink in the first place!!

Duckett is a finely tuned athlete?

Fred regarded beer as the fast bowlers high octane fuel. Wonder what he would have thought of bleep tests?

I think his views would have contained more bleeps than the test!

I was sorry to read in this article that "Bayliss is now understood to be considering dropping two or three players at the end of the tour, regardless of it weakening the team, in an attempt to reassert his authority." If this is true, Trevor, then please just resign. If you've lost your authority then that's probably because you're a poor coach, and deliberately weakening the team by way of a hissy fit is liable just to reveal that all the more starkly.

It does seem as if he has, as they say, 'lost the dressing room'.

I don't have any inside info on about this one but can't we rule a few out of people it might be who cause problems?

Cook - does he even drink. I can't see him as a trouble maker
Stoneman - not involved long enough to be setting a culture
Vince - don't know much about him but he seems a lad but wouldn't weaken side dropping him.
Root - captain.
Malan - see vince. Doesn't seem a lad though.
Moeen - doesn't drink
Bairstow - hmmmm....head butts to say hello.
Woakes - not sure he would say boo to a goose
Overton - only been about for a few weeks so surely not got feet under table yet
Anderson - does he run the dressing room and set culture? Probably
Broad - see Anderson.

i know who my main suspects would be.

I didn't realise Flower was simply shifted sideways after the last whitewash. Seems he landed on his feet.

Everything here does seem the fault of Bayliss, it's obvious lol. They should all have a group headbutt and make up, then see what Mickey Arthur is doing. A bit of homework never goes astray on your descent into a rabble.

The Bayliss claim that it might "weaken the side" if these players were dropped should make it easy. That list would only includes about three players lol.

I feel a bit sorry for him. He's like a genial school principal trying to control a frat house at the moment. He's a coach, not a drug and alcohol councilor.

This paragraph in the Telegraph is interesting:

Quote:
Anderson has been caught up in this incident but has a clean record, is hugely respected in the game, and is not one of those the management have identified as a problem. Instead it is others, more junior, who must fear for their careers because Bayliss will have to be seen to be taking action.

If the axe is going to fall I’d start with Bayliss and Strauss.

Some of you should win championships in BS.

It is the drinking culture that's the problem and it is a BIG problem. This isn't a bit of argy bargy in the dressing room, this stuff is spilling out onto streets, clubs and pubs.

And all these pathetic examples of "oh yes, well player x, y, z from 50 years ago also used to drink" how does any of that justify the current behaviour?

unless there is a wholesale change in player and fan culture, certain players will never be held accountable and not feel like they need to be held accountable.
