Meh he's a cheat. It will be a shame if Steyn doesn't make it back in time though.

I guess he must have never felt the same after the sum total of his last 3 test innings.

Cricinfo now reporting that 3 counties - Warwickshire, a London club (presumably Surrey) and one other are keen on signing Morkel as a kolpak next summer. At that point he'll be at an age where he may well be tempted but it would still be a blow for SA.

He'll be 33 in October so he must be coming to the end of the line as a fast bowler. Would it be wise for a county to give him a long term deal?

Sounds like Amla is also weighing up a similar move, yes his best days look long gone but it's a pretty damning assessment of South African cricket that he was probably still their best batsmen in this most recent series. You can't overly blame either though.

Haven't heard that. Amla would seem an ideal replacement for Sanga at Surrey. Would be a travesty if he called it quits prematurely, though. None of the recent wave of kolpaks have been in the class of those two.

You can blame the counties, though, who once again are putting their own short-sighted interests over the good of the game (in two countries).

It's interesting just how poor some of them have been, for instance Rossouw was being talked up as some sort of great hope for South African batting yet he's been distinctly average for Hampshire. A lot is made of this flow of talent from South Africa into county cricket but i'd suggest the problems go way beyond that.

Tom but we have seen the first injury from him.

2014 - 154.2
2015 - 544.4
2016 - 502.2

That's just f/c cricket and a huge load for a young player.

The Times

South Africa hope to make history by hosting the first four-day Test in the modern era when they play Zimbabwe on Boxing Day.

Cricket South Africa announced yesterday its intention to stage the day-night match at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth but it will require the approval of the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the match to be recognised as an official Test.

If the ICC approves the reduction from five to four days then it could be the start of a trend, with Tom Harrison, the chief executive of the ECB, indicating his support for the idea in The Times in March.
