Steyn who injured his heel on 6 Jan. Likely to be out for 4-6 weeks. Should to be ready Mar 22 for the 3rd Test v Australia. That's nearly 3 months!

Cricinfo
'While de Villiers and de Kock are recovering from knee and wrist injuries respectively, du Plessis and Bavuma are nursing broken fingers. South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee told ESPNcricinfo that a call on their availability will only be taken as the series draws closer'.

Can't wait for this series but was hoping for a full strength squad from SA.

Wanted to see Starc, Hazelwood, Pattinson (not selected), Cummins v Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Rabada. Australia will play 3 fast men and Marsh and SA 4.

Not that young for a quick. After this series SA have a few months off. Possibly he wants to earn a few quid abroad before the body gives out. With the young lad Ngidi joining 22 year old Rabada, SA are well served in the pace department me thinks. They have more than that too I think.

He is quoted as saying:

"I have a young family and a foreign wife" Odd phrase.

Wonder what the nationality of his wife has to do with it?

Be a shame to see Morne go, his record perhaps doesnt quite justify what a good cricketer he's been for South Africa. I'd classify him as one of those bowlers who made batsmen feel uncomfortable without actually bowling a natural wicket taking line. What i would say is that Dale Steyn has a decent amount to thank Morne for, as a duo they complimented each other particularly well.

I guess Roz Kelly being a prominent figure in Australian broadcasting meant time together was somewhat limited.

Thanks, but still think it's odd to indirectly refer to her "nationality". If everyone else knows that he's married to a prominent Australian then why not say:

"I have a young family" or "I have a wife and young family" or even "I have a young family and Australian wife"

But I guess he wont be signing kolpak then, rather will try and play in Australia.

He has been linked to the BBL team Brisbane Heat and Roz Kelly has indicated she wants to move back home. She covers the BBL for Ten and the two were apart for nearly two months of the summer.

Why doesn't he just sign with the bulls for a year or two? They could use a bowler who isnt a 125km medium pace trundler.

No doubt to take up further opportunities in Caribbean/Aus/SA/Pakistan and maybe even little ol' England t20 tournaments. Still only 34 as well. This is a significant loss to cricket IMO.

SA squad for two Tests in SL:

Du Plessis, Amla, Bavuma, de Kock, de Bruyn, Elgar, Klaasen, Maharaj, Markram, Ngidi, Philander, Steyn, Rabada, Shamsi, Shaun von Berg

Cricinfo
Steyn

‘I want to achieve certain things in my career. A hundred Test matches would be amazing and 500 wickets would be incredible’

At my age [he turns 35 this month] I want to play a lot of cricket. I think I can push it until I’m 38, maybe even 39, and start drifting this way [to county cricket] around that age.

.......
If he is still playing Tests at 38/39 he would go past 600 wickets.

The Saffers test series defeat has me worried about our tour of Sir Lanka this winter, I asked one of you guys what happened and you told me about the dusty turning tracks and crafty spinners doing the damage. If you think you're bad against spin, we're even worse!

I still do not know how the Saffers will fill the AB and Morkel sized holes in the squad, reminds me of when the Aussie greats all retired at once and they went through a couple of years of suffering whilst they rebuilt. However the more I see of Ngidi the more impressed I am with this kid.
