Geoff Cook has announced he'll be leaving the club at the end of the season.

He's been with Durham from day one of their first class existence.

Ill health forced him to take on less work. Saw him at an under 17 game recently and he didn't look too good at the time. Hope he enjoys a long retirement.

Ryan Davies has left Durham.

Very odd as he seemed to have landed on his feet with a 2-year contract which he was halfway through. Hard to see that another county would jump in for him.

Durham have cited the ever-cryptic "personal reasons" and also stated "The club will be making no further comment" - obviously a phrase set to fuel speculation on the reasons if ever there was one.

Davies also left Somerset for personal reasons with a year left on his contract. Difficult to know what's wrong but whatever it is hopefully it can be put right.

I also notice that the club have finally announced James Franklin as "High Performance" coach. Buzz words for head coach effectively.

Say what? This is a guy who one year ago sandpapered a ball and claimed he 'didn't know any better' as an excuse, refers to himself in third person & and has no captaincy credentials whatsoever. Like, how desperate for options do you have to be to land on Bancroft as your captain?

Finished 3rd bottom last year. Best players either represent England or have moved to other Counties. Massively in debt and potless.

So quite desperate!!

We are pretty desperate

I'm actually more worried about his lack of experience as captain.

I can forgive the sandpaper incident, it was clearly not his idea and he's served his time. Players have got away far more lightly for ball tampering. I think he deserves another chance, although I'd prefer him at Durham just as a batsman.

Incidentally, I've just finished Geoff Lemon's book on the sandpaper debacle. Cracking read.

Also, doesn't he have to miss the start of the season due to an awards dinner and could potentially be called up for an A Tour then the Ashes?

He's definitely missing the first game. I think Lees will captain instead.

I can't wait to read it, when I can actually find it. Anything particularly noteworthy that came to light that may no have gotten any press?

Not really in terms of details, but it's a really thorough analysis.

Cricket Australia in particular come in for some stick.

Ned Eckersley, who I thought was giving up playing to puruse other options, has been on trial at Durham. Played on their pre-season tour.

a useful signing actually.
firstclass average of 32 with 14 hundreds.(in a very weak side)

bats anywhere in the order and can keep wicket.

i thought he was stiff not to be offered a new deal at leicester, better than quite a few who are still there.
i can see him making a 1000 runs if he starts in the side from match 1.
