Only just mind. He does need to prove that he is back to full fitness and can bowl long spells. He has had a number of injuries and setbacks recently.

If he is fit and can prove it I believe he is gauranteed a place. If is the biggest question though.

That is exactly why Harmison should be first out of the team if Sibo is to return.

Sidebottom would be my first choice swing bowler if fit, at least he knows how to get the ball near them three sticks at the other end.

Well I did say you were rather fond of mediocre cricketers on the other thread.

Are you saying my new favourite - Rikki Clarke - is mediocre?

The problem is, how can Ryan prove his fitness before the tests? He hasn't bowled for ages, and the last few times he has bowled he has broken down pretty quickly. There's no way anyone can assess his fitness to complete a 5 day test match at full intensity.

You might be right. That said I'd rather take a slight risk on Sidebottom's fitness than pick Anderson. It'll be interesting to see how Strauss managed his bowlers in the two warm up games. Ideally Harmison, Sidebottom and Panesar all need to get 50+ overs under their belts. It would also be sensible to take a good look at Rashid.

That's very true. Which means we want them to bowl well enough to get into gear and have overs under their belts, but not well enough to take too many wickets, ensuring they don't get the chance to get overs under their belt!
