If England lose/draw the next test, will it be the shortest reign as No.1 matches wise?

No, IIRC India were no 1 for some 13 days or so before losing it to SAF.

The rankings never show the true picture. It is important for cricket fans to use their own eyes and make their own judgements rather than relying on nonsensical rankings.

It has been quite clear for a while now that Englandís preparation and execution is unparalleled.

I accept that they have not performed this year but I can assure you this is a temporary blip, they have had opportunities to beat both Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Yeah it is temporary, get back to England and they'll win everything.

Honestly, I am getting fed up of this notion that we can only win in England which is what Iíve noticed is being said on here having been a silent reader of these forums for quite some time.

We comprehensively trashed Australia down under.

While reading you may have gathered that everything is not so serious.

But also you overrate that win against Australia as judging where you stand as a team overall. Winning Asia was always going to be much harder, and you've failed(have another test though) against 2 teams in Asia that wern't rated so highly before you played them, 5th and 6th in the world at the mo. The Australian team you trashed beat SL 1-0 last year. But then they had Michael Clarke and Hussey.

Forgive my ignorance on how the rankings are worked out. Jimmy takes 5 wickets for the first time this year and only goes up by 6 points. Is this because the Sri Lanka players are not ranked too highly whereas the England players are ranked much higher so he gets such a big rise in ranking?

Sangakkara was number 1 in the rankings so I would have thought he would have got more than 6 points for his wicket.

Good to see Cook back in the top ten. It's striking how far the batsmen have fallen down the rankings after the horrendous performances of the winter.

Clearly, Trott and Pietersen belong in the top ten, but have underperformed. This test, hopefully, marks the start of far better things to come, with ghosts of DRS lbws laid to rest.

Howzat do a 2 year ranking (7 Apr 2012)

Tests batting
1 AB de Villiers

How, if de Villiers is the top-ranked batsman, does he not get in their World XI?

Why does Smith get in before Cook? Cook's ahead of him in runs, average and even alphabetically!

There are several other anomolies like that.
