The floods are really tragic.
The prices are not too bad if earning Aussie coin.
The cricket is cyclical.

See, no depression.

Does this mean we need some cricket24/7 drinks to teach you how to drink again?

If there's one thing in life Chin's not forgotten it's how to drink. I still endorse the plan though.

Agreed sounds a good idea, though I worry for you though slogger, you seem to have wimped out of the last few. If Longoff on his London visit is up for meeting the rest of you lot I think this is a plan!

Flintoff was interviewed by Colin Murray on 5 Live today. Quite a good interview actually. He talked about playing for Penwortham club cricket this summer and Murray roped him in for the 5 Live under 35s cricket team. Came across quite well. However, the bad news, potentially, for cricket lovers is that he is going to be hosting a new show on 5 Live starting in May and runninng all summer called "Flintoff's World of Sport". Thursday nights at 8pm.

Note: World of Sport. All sports will be featured, Wimbledon, athletics, the odd test match...

But isn't this slot the one slot the BBC bothers to give us in the cricket season with the Phil Tufnell show and similar? I am terribly afraid that the BBC thinks - "Flintoff - "he's a cricketer" and that will be our lot. I really hope this isn't the case.

If that does replace Tuffers cricket show it will be a same. I've enjoyed that and he's certainly better at it than Goughie was.

I read in the Mail that Flintoff has been selling his homes in the NorthWest as he has relocated to Surrey presumably because it is easier to get do media work from Surrey!

Flintoff is now the latest cricketer to come out on the issue of depression.

He certainly hid it well in public..I suppose after the high of sporting achievement, normal day to day life seems so meaningless and drab. Also the adoration you get from the public may not be replicated by those that are close to you. Those that have been through war often also feel depression and despair at the mundane return to reality.

Good on him. Does make me wonder whether Indian players go through it and never announce it though as the stress and pressure is much higher than other countries. And especially when players get dropped, most have little support, lose their friends etc. Rohit Sharma is one case of that, but Abhishek Nayar took care of him and led him on the right path.

Just read the article. It sounds like he was fed up of all the rehab and losing so badly out in Australia. I'm not sure this is the same as depression.

I was thinking the same thing but wouldn't want to mock if it's genuine.

I'm certainly not mocking, it just doesn't sound like (clinical) depression to me. We all feel down at certain periods in our lives but I wouldn't say we all have experienced depression.

Mocking was the wrong word - question it being clinical depression is what I should have said. I believe that what Flintoff went through was profound disappointment at England's performance in Australia including his own as captain, with the knowledge that he/they had thrown away all the glory attaching to Ashes 05. Using drink to mask the feelings made things worse. It's an understandable reaction to unhappy events. Happens most people from time to time. Clinical depression is an entirely different matter, as has been discussed on here, and may I think follow on from the reactive kind. But from what Flintoff says so far, I'd say he was just very fed up.
