Don't see Archer's name there. Maybe he will be under West Indies players.

Yes Archer is in there under WI. About $60,000. Bargain!
Obviously the IPL hasnt paid any attention to the Blast otherwise they'd have seen the impact Wessels has made.

Mind you, he probably isnt "marketable" enough.

Thought it was announced there were 26 in the auction?

Archer of course should be under the WI. The whole discussion around him is that he isn't going to English qualified in this decade.

His Hobart teammate D'arcy Short is also there and starting price is only $30,000, I'm going to take a wild guess and say they'll both go for more than that although much of the money seems to be spent on the name rather than ability so someone could pickup some bargains.

Joe Denly reckons he has a shot?

I have to say I was shocked to see him turn out in the Big Bash the other day. He seems to be starting to make the rounds of the "lower tier" T20 franchise competitions.

Pretty shocking turn of events when looking back at his 50-over attempts for England back in the day.

He was top scorer in the Blast and is at the peak of his powers right now. Hugely in demand I'd have thought

Hugely in demand meaning he might go for his base price if he's lucky?

One of the things that's quite different with the IPL compared to the other T20 competitions (only the BPL is similar I think) is the number of overseas players, most competitions allow 2 to play and possibly another one or two in the squad whereas the 4/8 allowed in the IPL opens up a lot of opportunity to pick up cheaper overseas signings that are low risk but high reward (Denly probably comes in to that category) however the IPL teams do seem to just concentrate on the big batting names and the odd superstar all-rounder.

I'd try to make sure that the lower cost overseas signings were bowlers who give the team options for all types of pitches and opposition whilst being good fielders and wouldn't look out of place at #9 so that any changes to the bowling lineup didn't interfere too much with the batting and fielding.

Yeah, I'd look to prioritise home talents where supply is less, safe in the knowledge that I could pick up bargain overseas players to fill the XI.

Nabi and Archer would definitely be on my list of overseas players to target.

Of course they do. The competition is about hitting 6's. Who wants to watch a game where both teams struggle to score 120 and bowlers are on top?

Well for the owners it's about making money but for the coaches you'd think it's about winning. Most players can hit sixes off poor or average bowling these days.

I'm a bit surprised Root went unsold. Did he overprice himself? I guess there are a lot of domestic players who can do his kind of job in the middle order. It'll be interesting to see how much Archer goes for, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up in the millions despite him having a low reserve.
