Aus v Eng 2nd test, Adelaide

Has anyone worked out when this starts UK time yet?

The Saturday(?) start is throwing me plus the weird time zones and day-night configurations aren't helping.

As far as I can work out the toss will be at 3am Saturday morning UK time.

Sessions will be
3:30-5:30am
5:50-7:50am
8:30-10:30am

Is that right?

BT are advertising it for 2 o'clock so I assume either 2.30 or 3 o'clock start

Edit sorry just double checked and the programme starts at 2.30 on the first day and 3 o'clock from then on so I'm guessing 3.30 start as you said.

It's confusing isn't it?

Just googled it and it's a 10.5 hour time difference and your session times are correct. Glad they're doing the longer interval in the evening, it makes much more sense to me.

Root says Ali will be assessed after practice to see if he can bowl at Adelaide. He could play as a specialist batsman.

Anderson in particular should really enjoy bowling with the pink ball at Adelaide, if past day nighters are anything to go by. Seem to remember the Kiwi bowlers enjoying our batting collapse their a while back. They probably should have won, we were very lucky with a 3rd Umpiring decision that allowed our tail to get us out of bother.

The pink ball usually does a bit.

The pitch is looking much drier than it has than previous years, maybe due to the unusually brutal heat so early in November. Weather is cooling and will be over-cast for the first couple of days however. It will suit Australia and Englands bowlers more than that pudding of a Gabba wicket. Could be done and dusted in 3 days.

How odd. I'm not quite sure what the point of naming 12 is.

Fitness concerns? Like to look at the pitch or weather?

Yes, but they have a squad of 16. There is no need to name a squad of 12 for the match.

Will the ball really "swing round corners"?
I could be wrong but didn't Pakistan nearly chase down 490 in the previous day nighter here? It is my understanding that the grass was left long for the first one, but the last one lower and will be again?

No, I don't think it will "swing around corners" no but there has only been 1 score in excess of 300 in the 2 D/N tests there so far so the bowlers are likely to be in the game throughout. I think the game you are referring to was held in the UAE.

You are thinking of Pakistan vs Aus at the Gabba.http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1...f-aus-2016-17/

Again shows what an incompetent selection panel we have when we have fitness concerns over our 'spinner' and we don't even give our other spinner who is in the country a place in the XII. It winds me up. I hope Overton gets a game over either Ball or Woakes, we need someone who offers something different to right arm medium-fast in the team.

What does Overton bowl then? Right arm medium less fast?

Bounce from a good length. He will get more than the other bowlers. He gets people doing back further than they should and then goes for bowled and lbw.

It bugs me that people say he is slow. Look at big Vern. Hardly express is he?

Vern pitches it up though, or at least seams/swings off a good length, and is relentlessly accurate. He has a decent bouncer but he's not someone who relies on getting lift. I don't know enough of Coverton, but sounds like you are describing two different styles of bowler, so a bit apple and oranges. However, Tremlett terrorises the Aussies in 2010 bowling mid-80s and getting plenty of lift. Although he was then a busted flush attempting the same in 2013 but in the high 70s.

Good to have you back on the board, btw (genuinely). Even if only a fleeting visit.
