Apart from your dig at Franks, which I don't agree with, that is a perfect summing up of the non-England Notts bowlers.

We've brought in Broad, Pattinson, Saxelby and Fletcher this year, probably a bit of an over reaction.

I'd like to see us go for one quality one. Jeffers will be alright when he hits form, he does have a bit of class... I think. Shame he can't get back into an England academy squad because he does seem to be struggling with major technical flaws and I'm not sure Notts CCC is the place to have them sorted out - look at the difference between Will Smith when at Notts and Will Smith now at Durham!

He escaped from Johnson thats why he got a double century. Any person on the board at notts must wonder why so many good county pros come to Notts and go backwards - why they havent sacked him is beyond me

Match report vs Hants

Well what a lovely day.

Notts played some cracking stuff - Swann pinch hit superbly, Wood looked like he had played the game before, Voges was quite fantastic and Shaf continued his recent good form. With the ball Adams started brightly despite the fine batting of Lumb and then the spin twins took control with Swann in paticular very impressive. Some lovely catches were held, Voges at slip and Patel at short mid wicket the pick. Ealham and Franks finished things off despite some nice hitting from Mascha wots his name.

MofM Voges for me, complete class act in the limited overs game.

So hurrah all round, a top performance for 2 out of 2 wins.

Yorkies next in the CC. Just hitting our straps at the right time.

Notts v Yorkies starting 22/7/08 - i hope Newell gives Flecther ago instead the hopeless Franks unless England all out today and Pattinson comes back

Id be surprised if we threw Pattinson back in tomorrow if the test match finishes today. Would love to see Fletcher given a go, but Im sure we will give our tried and tested medicore back up the nod instead.

From the Notts website:

"Nottinghamshire team to face Yorkshire: Matt Wood, Bilal Shafayat, Mark Wagh, Adam Voges, Samit Patel, Chris Read (capt / wkt), Graeme Swann, Paul Franks, Mark Ealham, Andre Adams, Charlie Shreck"

I suppose Shaf had to come in, they probably tossed a coin to decide which opener dropped out. Disappointed about Franks coming in. Should have been Footitt, at least he's likely to take wickets although probably as likely as Franks to go round the park. But we have four other steady bowlers and Samit who's at least 3/4s of one this season so it would have been worth the gamble imho...

Jefferson's getting an extended rest I understand, Shaf is on form as well.

Shame Fletch isn't in, Franks is ok for me though.

I saw Footitt yesterday btw, so he is still alive!

Another match and Newells team selection baffles me

Shaf as played well in the last 2 one day games batting at 5 so he's back in today as an opener???? Wagh should have opened or Swann

Franks and Ealham play instead of giving Flecther or Footit ago.

Pattinson didnt do much yesterday so why he couldnt play today and show what he can do in front of the moaning hoggard.

With the weather set fine there should be a result and i hope its a Notts win

Are you honestly suggesting Swann opens in a 4 day game?

Why move Wagh as well? He's been no. 3 all season, putting Shaf at 5 would mean the top 5 move up a place, wouldn't that cause more disruption? With Shaf coming in you change just the one position.

I would have liked to have seen Fletcher in for Franks though definitely. Pattinson was never going to be allowed to play for us, thats not a realistic request.

Only a matter of time b4 we disagreed!!!

Thing is though Billy, as had more positions than a rubix cube. Since coming back ive seen him a 2nd change bowler, open up, come in at 4 and 5 and even behind Read. (presuming he's reserve wicky aswell) He's not a new ball opener really is he? he's a wristy middle order stroke maker. hence his latest one day position. If we are to fully realize this blokes obvious potential he needs to be shown a bit of consistancy by the coaches/management.

I think they see him as an opener in the CC. Thats where he has stepped in for the 4 day games.

I wouldn't play him myself and would have tried Wagh as opener months ago but you shouldn't disrupt the whole line up to accomodate one player.

Notts like consistency in theor selections. They also put faith in their older players. Shaf is on form so good luck to the lad.

Swann to open why not? the others who have opened have done nothing so a quick 30 may get us off to a good start.

Wagh as not been as good this season so again try him as an opener if it works great if not then try something else.

Pattinson yes hes off the back of a test match but if hes feels ok then play him. Hes taken a lot of stick during the test match and it could play on his mind why hes sitting watching and reading the newspapers.

Swann is never an opener in the four day game, you build a start - not chance your arm.

Wagh I would have tried as opener months ago so can see some mileage in that. Probably too late to do that now. He is a natural no.3 and i'm assuming very happy there. 3-6 have been ok lately.

Pattinson probably isn't even allowed to play for us. England would block the move even if we attempted it. Plus he's just come off an emotional roller coaster and could well be shattered by the whole experience. We will have him back next week no doubt.

Well we have tried to build a start many times this year and its failed big time in fact its the worse i can remember. So why not chance your arm it may work it may not. Swann used to open for Northants in the 4 day game sometimes so hes not a stanger there.

Pattinson: Some people like to get back on the field straight away and some dont- -we are only guessing whats going on in his mind thats why i clearly say ask him and take it from there, which newell may have done.

overcast at the moment so it should swing big time
