I paid good money to attend this rubbish at Lord's in 2003. In those days you could bring your own alcohol into the ground, it became apparent very early that we were going to have drink a lot faster than usual!!

Think we were in a boozer on Baker St by about 3pm.

Does anyone else look at Dhoni's innings in ODI's now and wonder if he's on a payroll somewhere? Every time he bats it stinks. He currently has 9 off 20 balls having come to the crease at 188-4 in the 33rd over. Just 25 runs scored in the next 7, and that's with Kohli on a ton at the other end.

Umm... this is Dhoni's record in 2017...

Matches-29; Innings-22
Runs- 788; Avge- 60.62
50s-6; 100s-1
HS-134; SR-84.73

It stinks alright.

The match hinged on Kohli's reprieve for the lbw. Strange DRS showed a spike but he reviewed because he thought the ball was missing.

For someone who averages in the 60's (presumably helped by a lot of not outs), that strike rate is still low in the modern game for a number 6.

And 29 ODI's in a calendar year is just ridiculous!!

Haven't been able to catch any of the ODI series. Amazing that Chahal & Yadav have a combined average of 9. They are pretty good, the pair of them, but unless you're playing Murali & Warne on a fifth day Bunsen in India, you probably shouldn't be averaging 9 against a pair of spinners. But SA do have some excuse with their terrible luck with injuries.

Reminds me of India getting utterly bamboozled by Ajantha Mendis 10 years ago (as an aside, whatever happened to Mendis anyway...? He didn't have the consistency required for Tests after that initial brilliance against India but his ODI/T20I numbers are astonishing).

Good question about Mendis, it looks like he's started playing first class cricket again recently having barely played at all in 2017. I think he just got worked out after a while and struggled.

Anyway South Africa win under DLS. Phelukwayo's strike rate of 460 must be one of the highest ever.

Ouch a 12 ball duck for Kallis.

That strike-rate does.

It's barely above the retired Ian Ronald Bell, who must be modern ODI cricket's Mendoza line.

The spinners got flogged for once. Maybe their mystique will be broken down now.

I think context is important here. Bell (77.16; so the use of 'barely' is highly debatable) played in a team that had Cook (77.13), Trott (77.06) and Ravi Bopara (77.84). So basically everyone was the same type of batsman.

Compare that with what post-2015 Dhoni bats with (since 1st Jan 2015)- Kohli (94.67), Rohit (96.44), Dhawan (95.97), Jadhav (109.88), Pandya (116.08), Raina (99.42) Pandey (93.10) and Yuvraj (98.67). So Dhoni at a lower strike rate but a decent average and quite a few runs actually has the role of making sure India bats 50 overs. Exhibit A is actually the match just last night.

Should he be batting at 5 and 6? No. He should actually be the ideal number 4 with the hitters following him but that becomes tricky if Rahane bats in the middle order.

India win the ODI Series 4-1 with one match to go.

The biggest positive for South Africa is probably Klaasen who looks a very attacking player and a very able keeper. But no one, not even Amla and De Villiers, appears to have picked the wristspinners at all.

Thought SA were going to win having restricted India and that good opening stand. Just fell apart against the spinners.

After scoring 286 runs in the Test series - no one else from either side managed more than 211 - Kohli's now set an all-time bilateral ODI series record of 558 runs.

The 156 runs he'd need to score in the three T20Is to aggregate 1,000 international runs for the tour will probably be a bridge too far, even in the form he's currently in.

But still, an incredible series. Whilst he's a distinct second best to Steve Smith in Test cricket, Kohli is simply peerless when it comes to dominance across formats.
