Well done Pakistan. 57/5 first innings to now be almost 500 ahead for 5 second innings. Australia are a proper shower.

Has the pitch flattened out or have the Aussies heads dropped?

A bit of both. Aussies not helped by Starc being injured and only bowled 7 overs. Also, Khawaja has a twisted knee and won't be able to open (assuming he can bat at all).

Harsh, he's one of the few this tour who's shown he can

Shaun Marsh displaying the type of consistency that has eluded Maxwell by averaging 3.5 in both tests

Just seen that bizarre run out. Definitely Bell-esque.

Ozzies will do well to take it to a fifth day.

But the last test was expected to be a formality too.

77 for 3. I believe the Marsh boys now have a total of 44 runs in this series @ 5.5.

Which very quickly became 77-5, and doesn't look like Khawaja will bat. But at least those boys have good lineage.

Mo Abbas the chief destroyer again as he continues to have the lowest bowling average of anyone with more than 50 wickets for over 120 years.

In fact, here's the link to that record. He's up to 3rd now, only Lohmann and Ferris above him. Maybe he should retire....

The Abbas average being destroyed here, he's dropped below Billy Barnes in the all time.

More than anything, the rather anodyne performance of Yasir Shah is a surprise. He destroyed the Aussies the last time they were in the UAE. I know he did nothing when Pakistan were last down under but he's been a prolific performer in the UAE up until now and you would have thought he would have filled his boots here.

Oh and 25 collective match runs for the 'right sort of Aussie family' boys the Marshes.

More than a 25% improvement on the 19 from the previous Test. That's what good lineage boys do, always heading in the right direction.

No real pace, lots of easy wickets on helpful Division Two pitches....can't see him cutting it at the highest level.

I think it highlights just how difficult leg spin is to bowl, unless you are an absolute genius then it doesn't take much of a drop in form to look innocuous, or worse. The captain has to be patient with them to get the best out of them long term.

Makes you wonder what kind of carnage Darren Stevens would unleash on Test batsmen.

Well now this is more like it. The Marsh Bros series contribution of 44 runs completely vindicates the decision not to play Renshaw and Maxwell.

The most depressing thing about all of this, is you know exactly what's going to happen. The continual selection and free ride of the Spud Bros will attract fan and media criticism, and Langer will come out and say in the less articulate way about how 'we need players with experience in these times, people of good character lineage, the cream will rise to the top' or what ever cliche manages to bubble to the surface of his booze addled brains, and then you know what? Against the Kookaburra on flat Australian wickets Mmarsh will probably smash a double ton against Sri Lanka, Smarsh will probably hit a ton at Perth, and Langer will boastfully bang on about how 'their critics have been proved wrong,' then we'll go into the Ashes where they'll both fail dismally, as the likes of Renshaw/Maxwell carry the drinks/watch on from County Cricket, and then get dropped by the 4th test so the selectors save face and the series is already lost. Then 6 months later they'll both make tons in early Shield rounds and be back in the side again to face the South Africans, rinse and repeat for at least another 2-3 years.

I don't mind that Australia are crap, losing doesn't bother me really unless it's the Ashes, what bothers me however is the stubborn refusal to pick your best XI based on bias and 'lineage.' I just want that we pick our best side, based on some sort of consistent platform of merit, and if we're still crap, fine, but can I just watch someone other than Marsh Bros fail for a change?
