Looks like the big Derbyshire clear out has been concluded with Ben Cotton's departure last week. A shame for Bne given he did relatively well in the shorter formats but generally i applaud the decision to trim the squad to a 13/14 personnel rather than the 20 odd we were working with last year. What is a shame is that since 2003 the much invested into academy has produced just a single player who's gone on to earn a county cap (Alex Hughes).

Overseas recruitment will be interesting with Philander the word on the street, if true not a particularly clever decision to add another injury prone bowler to an attack already containing Rampaul, Viljoen and Will Davies.

Bit of a long shot but Im trying to find out a bit more about a bowler for Derbyshire - probably just post war, although Im not sure about that ,by the name of Wragg I think - I think he was banned for chucking and was eventually found to have a similar action to Malinga but Im by no means certain - he may just have been double jointed or something.
My Mums family is related to the Wraggs - and I remember it being some big dark secret that nobody talked about when I was little - Ive tried asking my Mum but she doesnt remember all that much now - Is this ringing a bell with anyone or is there anywhere I can check it out ?

There are lots of A-Z lists of Derbyshire cricketers, e.g. on Wikipedia, and I can't see a Wragg.

There was a player called Harold Rhodes who very much fits the criteria you have mentioned:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Rhodes_(cricketer)

As goes without saying, we really need at least a surname to nail this one down.

Thanks everyone - I shall have to see if I can contact some of that side of the family - Rhodes does ring a bell though now you mention it - as I said I was only little at the time so it went above my head a bit but there may be a connection through the Wraggs side or something - my Mum is very much "Your cousin so and so who married so and so who was cousin to thingy etc.".
Will let you know if I find anything out.

I did promise to let you know but it turns out to be a bit dull - my Mum used to go out with Harold Rhodes for a while in the 50's when he lived in Darley Dale - they then split up and Harold ended up marrying the younger sister of my Mums best friend but they all still knocked about together and he went to my Mums wedding and remained in touch until she moved south with my Dad in 67/68 ish

Derbyshire have taken on Middlesex's Martin Andersson on loan. He must surely be of at least part-Swedish parentage - Martin Kristoffer Andersson.

No need, he's not a leggie (or, as far as I'm aware, a pastry).
