Ishant Sharma joins for the first two months of the season. He's often flattered to deceive in Test cricket but he had a good tour last time over here, so in early conditions hopefully will nab a lot of wickets.

I presume we still haven't signed any batsmen - the glaring weakness in the squad.

Athough I guess Ishant replaces Archer whilst he's at the IPL. There's some irony in there somewhere.

Yes it's hard to see where a batsman is likely to come from. Northeast looks very unlikely to come and I can't see anyone else decent moving, plus Andrew seems very anti-Kolpak.

Not sure when it will be announced but he's agreed terms with Hampshire, I'm afraid.

Much as he would enjoying working with Gillespie, there was no way he was ever joining another Div Two county. He left Kent because he's given up on them getting promoted..

Sussex fast bowling coach Jon Lewis has left the county for a posotion with England Under-19s.

Looks like a sensible move for both parties now that Jason Gillespie is at Hove.

Looking for a bit of info on spectating at the County Ground. I'm planning on visiting on Easter Monday for the first day of the Sussex v Loughborough MCCU match. What's the score with sitting in the Spen Cama pavilion for a match like this? I note from the club website that its normally members only but i was wondering whether this might be relaxed for an MCCU game?

Impossible to imagine that Lehmann is going to be allowed to continue as Australian coach....and the favourite to succeed him now has to be Jason Gillespie.

That would be a cruel blow to Sussex., hardly tempererd by the fact that CA would have to pay the south coast county substantial compensation.

Do you think Gillespie would want the job at the moment? For the forseeable future he's got to travel round the world with players who will be castigated at every venue (including their own probably too).

He strikes me as the sort of bloke who wouldn't walk out on a contract.
Of course there might be a get out clause.

During my enjoyable visit to the cricket at Hove yesterday, I was a little saddened to see that the north-east corner of the ground is now an office park/car park.

You would think there were plenty of soulless locations suitable for all that rubbish other than a beautiful cricket ground.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

I think you're being a bit generous calling Hove beautiful! I think it's one of the ugliest grounds in England where a grass bank with deckhairs is the best bit.

Deckhairs admittedly don't sound good, but a grass bank with deckchairs sounds awesome to me.

I find Hove rather attractive. The residential blocks at the sea end are a bit of an eyesore but the stands within the ground are in no way imposing, and there are numerous levels from which to view the play. I actually think the 'new' stand by the main entrance is one of the nicer modern developments on the county circuit.

Agree that Hove is an attractive ground if you can sit at the Sea End so that you cannot see that hideous prison block behind you!

On other matters, I see Ian Chappell is calling for CA to appoint Jason Gillespie as head coach. Ponting seems ambivalent about it and so it may just be between Langer and Gillespie.

Both could conceivably get jobs as some Aussie media are floating the idea of two coaches, splitting red and white ball duties.
