I can't believe that this tournament is still going on.

A dozen games each in and we're hardly any the wiser as to who is and isn't going to qualify as it'll come down to the last few games.

I hope the franchise tournament is snappier than this.

Surely what this points to is that any team is capable of winning, which makes it more exciting?

It means the first dozen games are of little importance.

There must be hundreds of domestic team sports competitions staged around the world in which the qualifying group/league stage lasts a whole season - i.e. months. In some the subsequent play-offs can often involve the same teams playing each other in best-of-five series to determine who progresses. No-one seems to think any of these are too long or should be "snappier".

I could understand having a longer season if it was for fairness (eg so every team in the group plays each other the same number of times) but this is an arbitrary number of games for no discernable sporting reason.

That is correct. A fuss was made about this in the County Championship yet it is the same in the groups here and you are the first person I have known to question it.

Why? Who knows in advance how the games will turn out? Three or four teams could have dominated the groups and then you'd be saying it was boring because the quarter finalists were all identified well before the end of the group stages.

Hearing terrible news from Chelmsford, where a meber of the Essex staff has had a heart attack and an air ambulance helicopter is on the pitch.

If there is a fatality I'm hearing game will be abandonded with 1 pt each, which will probably end the qualifciation hopes of both teams. But that's small beer when a life is at stake.

God's blessings on the poor chap and let us pray for his recovery.

According to the County Twitter feed the Air Ambulance is away and match begins at 7.20.

Just had a text from the ground saying the helicopyer has now taken the poor chap to hospital and play will start 20 minslateer than scheduled.

In which case, COME ON THE SPITFIRES, as Kent search for their first silverware since 2007 to end the sorriest and unhappiest decade in the 55 years I've spent supporting the county.

There was no info at the ground about the nature of the emergency. I thought it might have been Peter Walker bearing the trophy.

Gratifying to hear that Essex's public relations are as rubbish as Kent's usually are!

But at least Radio Essex is more efficient than Radio Kent. Listening on internet and there is silence on RK so having to listen to RE.

Both sides have decent batting line-ups but bowlers win matches. Is it down to Amir v Milne?

Looking ominous at the halfway stage of Kent's innings for Essex.

T20 World record opening stand for Denly and DBD. Jeez, I've seen some stuff this season.

Well Radio Kent eventually got on air and I loved the inept but wonderfully enjoyable one-eyed commentary.

Didn't get the names, but one excitable Kent commentator in a teenage voice shouted at 12 overs: "Kent are going to get 250 here. I'm not joking!"

A little later the other idiot yelled: "I don't know what has happened to Essex. Did someone crack a mirror in the dressing-room?"

That was a litle too close to the knuckle. No, you insensitive poltroon. A member of the Esex staff had a heart-attack an hour before the game and at one time was believed to be dead.

Then another crazed comment as Walter came on for the 20th over. Having bowled 3 overs for 58, one of the comedians then decided the over might go for 42 in six balls. "What is the Essex captain doing? Does he want Walter to get his century up?", he gushed with adolescent passion.

The over actually went 1-7 and should have been 2-5, but for a dropped dolly.

Radio Kent - take a bow. We love you!

Anyway, Kent have the game in the bag, which is great, and whoever wins the Kent v Surrey game at Canterbury tomorrow night will qualify. And great to hear the Chelmsford crowd gave Denly a standing ovation. Sad to say that would never happen at Canterbury if the roles were reversed.

But overall, cricket at its best....and in the interval the excitable teenager has just announced that the names of Denly and Bell-Drummond should now be mentioned "in the same breath as Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers". Love it !!!

Essex batting like they want this won inside 15.. Claydon utterly slaughtered by Chopra.

Jeez - 94 off the power play. Does that mean Lawrence and Chopra should now be "mentioned in the same breath as Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers"?

Why are Coles and Tredwell not playing - are they injured?

I'm still backing Kent to win. But these Radio Kent idiots need to learn the meaning of the word hubris...

Wasn't someone talking up Ben Sanderson for England recently? Conceding 77 in four overs? No thank you.

Wow. That was close.

Kent's bowling really is rubbish. Never mind. We live to fight another day. it's now all down to the game v Surrey tomorrow night...

But please, please, please bring back Coles and Tredwell and bowl Stevens for more than one over instead of the liabilties called Neesham, Qayuum and Claydon...
