Start on the Yorkshire season not looking too rosy. Abandoning a 3 day first class match two days before it starts - headingley must be wet:

"Yorkshire’s three-day friendly against Leeds/Bradford MCC Universities, which was due to start on Saturday, has been cancelled.

The recent wet weather, even including some snow as recently as Monday, has left Emerald Headingley unplayable.

Yorkshire’s hierarchy have taken the difficult decision with next Friday’s opening Specsavers County Championship match against Essex in mind, and they are now assessing their options with regards to alternative cricket this weekend and for early next week."

If they go and call it Emerald Isle Headingley what do they expect?

With the rain we've had recently it's no wonder, the outfield must be a sponge.

Yep...plus there is a game starting Friday. Although the forecast for this week looks pretty good. Might dry the ground out a bit.

Yes.

But they've overcome this elsewhere.

Two weeks ago I didn't think I would have a chance of seeing play at Hove. It had been both cold and wet in the days/weeks/months running up, yet they started on day 1 and played 103 overs. Day 2 it rained, a lot, and I thought day 3 must be a write-off. Yet they started at 12.40pm.

Obviously a complex subject as every place is different and maybe there is something at Headingley that has been pushed beyond its limits. Who knows? It's a bit weird though, as apparently this is the first Championship total abandonment there since 1967 and the drainage was completely updated recently.

Is there a webcam on the Yorkshire site anywhere. I can find highlights from a webcam but not a live feed. Was wondering if I have missed it somewhere?

I don't think such things, whatever they are, have reached Yorkshire yet. I'm looking forward to listening to radio commentary from Headingley on my new transistor radio this season.

This, perhaps, has been the only positive from this game.

Andy Hodd is to retire at the end of the season.

While never one to grab the headlines, Hodd carved out a lengthy career in the game, making his first-class debut for Sussex back in may 2003. Joining Yorkshire in 2012, he had a golden period in the following years, earning the coveted Yorkshire cap in 2016.

I'm a bit worried that Ben Brown might take the same route as his contract runs out this year, even though he's been named club captain. Not sure if Yorkshire have a young prospect to take over though, and Brown's never been a standout in one day cricket, so it may not happen, it's just a bit concerning.

Jonny Tattersall has already taken over in the white ball games. So Hodd may not even play again.

For the Sussex thread I guess, but as you will know Mike Burgess keeps. I don't know how good he is in that role, or if he wants to pursue it. It can be tricky if someone stops keeping for a long period and gets used to that.

Well my concerns were misplaced anyway as Brown has signed on (for an unspecified amount of time)

'It is remarkable then that he has was dropped from Yorkshire’s 50-over team for the One-Day Cup match against Northamptonshire last week and he has not yet been offered an extension to his contract that runs out at the end of the summer.

Plunkett is now free to speak to other counties, with Middlesex believed to be at the head of the queue for his services'.
