Well, we're a quarter of the way through the Championship season and haven't really got going at all yet. Michael Brown (of all people) is our only batsman to score a century and Stuart Clark apart, the bowlers have yet to rip through sides with ease.

Not getting too worried yet as obviously we're still unbeaten. We really need to give Warwickshire a good hammering this week though...Tremlett is due a few wickets.

Well, that as well probably.

He usually manages between 8-10 Championship games a season...

Pothas and Bruce return to the squad for tomorrow with Burrows and Ervine making way.

Adams, Brown, Crawley, Lumb, Carberry, Pothas, Mascarenhas, Warne, Tremlett, Clark, Bruce/Udal (can't see Udal playing given the weather we've had).

It's about time that someone in our middle order got a ton really...

I can't see the logic in dropping Ervine... is he OK?

I saw him at the Rose Bowl today. I don't like to say it, and I've never met the guy properly, but there's something about him makes me feel very uncomfortable (maybe he overheard me saying that the Hants youngsters are all Warne wannabees... only thinner!)

One way to get Warne's back up is to mention his weight.

We were a bowler light against Kent. His bowling seems to be pretty ineffective so far this season.

Lumb is probably the lucky one to hold onto his place I guess.

I guess they're hoping Lumb will be able to duplicate his form in the one day game... which is still unfair on Ervine as in terms of Hampshire players he is the highest in list A runs so far this year and Lumb is second!

Well we've kept the same squad from the last game for tomorrow apparently. Lumb's one day form means that he hangs onto his place in the Championship side. Another poor game here and I would have thought he'll be axed.

Really need to win this one now...

Poor performance from our boys again this week.

Warne gave a pretty damning verdict of the performance:

"There won't be wholesale changes but there might be a few for the next game because too many of the bowlers aren't taking wickets and the batters aren't making runs so we're going to have to look at it.

"Unfortunately we're not performing in the first innings with the bat and when we've got sides dead and buried we're not knocking them over.

"We can't just keep on like that. When you're playing well you can carry a few people but we've only won one game in six when we've got aspirations of winning the championship so we can't afford to continue like that."

Warne admitted Hampshire were always behind the eight-ball after allowing Sussex to a first-innings 341, having had the champions 233-8.

He said: "We imposed ourselves on this game for the first two-and-a-half sessions but after that we didn't match their intensity at all.

"We were poor in all departments except for the first five hours of the match.

"We were all over them on the first day, we had them 233-8 on a flat wicket, but from there we played really poor cricket and didn't deserve to win and didn't deserve to be in the game.

"Although we lost the toss we could still have batted only once in the game by finishing them off for 240 in their first innings and making 500 to have them under the pump.

"But Sussex came at us pretty hard and we just weren't there to match them as a group. A couple of players did at certain times but not over a long period of time."

Lumb didn't do too badly though, did he? He still can't convert his 50s into bigger scores - which when I interviewed him for the Hants website he was concerned about - but at least he's still getting the 50s.

I'd have thought that Adams and Tremlett are probably the most vulnerable players after the Sussex game. Wouldn't be too surprised to see something like this next game:

Brown
Carberry
Crawley
Lumb
Benham
Pothas
Ervine
Dimi
Warne
Clark
Bruce

I put Ervine in to bolster what has been a pretty woeful batting lineup so far this season (1st innings especially). Tremlett or Udal could play instead of him though I suppose.

Just seen that our game against Surrey is on TV on Wednesday, no doubt it will provide a distraction from my studying!

In other news, 17 year old Liam Dawson had a good weekend for the Academy. He scored 98 and took 7 wickets against South Wilts on Saturday and scored 145 against Havant yesterday (ex-Hampshire great Lawrence Prittipaul scored a ton for Havant).

Know of any other young Hampshire talents?

I know of Dawson, and another young spinner you have (forgot his name)

And I've heard good things about Riazuddin.

Any others?

Chris Morgan is the other young spinner. He's 16 and took 5 wickets a couple of weeks ago for the Academy.

I've heard a bit about Riazuddin as well, he's from Berkshire. He seems to bat around 8 and open the bowling most weeks for the Academy. I think he got a quickfire 50 the other week batting down there.

James Vince is another who's meant to be pretty good. He became the youngest centurion in the history of the ECB Premier Leagues when he scored a hundred last season (aged 14). He's 15 now and has already got a couple of 50s this season, batting at number 3.

Another one is Adam Rouse (I think thats his name). He's only about 15 as well and seems to be playing for the Academy side most weeks. He scored his first club hundred a couple of years ago for Basingstoke and North Hants 2nds I think.

If just a couple of those come through and do well the Academy will have done its job.

He's another lad from Berkshire. Mate of mine played a bit of cricket with him in Berkshire age groups and he's meant to be pretty decent.

Not really scored the runs in the 2nds or the Academy yet. In fact, I think he chooses to play for Reading 1sts on Saturdays rather than the Academy.

Where have you seen these development squads?
