"The ‘odour’ pervading the ground is pretty bad and we will be calling on our Members later in the week to come down and give a few hours help to wipe down the seats and certain other areas.”

I must remember to take a nosepeg on Sunday. As well as the flippers.

I see Kervezee is playing for the Netherlands. Made 98 against Canada, a game in which Darrell Hair officiated...

Just got back from helping out in the big New Road clear-up - it's actually looking surprisingly good on the one side of the ground but the grass on the Pavilion side is very brown and waterlogged. They seem confident of starting on time tomorrow though, which would be a tremendous effort.

What a strange day at New Road yesterday - glorious sunshine throughout but it seemed quite clear from 10am onwards that it was going to be quite a struggle to get any play as the wet patches on the Pavilion side had not dried out anything like as quickly as they had hoped on Saturday.

Lots of criticism about Worcestershire's decision to attempt to stage this game at New Road but I completely agreed with Mark Newton's argument as to why it wasn't moved to Kidderminster. It was a shame there wasn't a chance to reverse the fixtures with Kent - Beckenham was offered as a venue for this game but it would have still been classed as a Worcs home game, not as a reversal of the fixtures.

It will be intriguing to see whether play is possible today.

I think they have done well to get it to the state it is in now - just wet at the run-ups

No play again today at New Road - perhaps the Beckenham offer should have been taken up after all. It would have enabled the Worcs groundstaff to get the place ready for Friday's televised day-night game without the added pressure of trying to get a CC game started these past couple of days.

This saga looks set to run and run for a while. I hope they get the ground fit for Friday.

I'm sure Sky had a major say in discussions regarding Friday's fixture. I heard they were putting a fair bit of pressure on Worcestershire last week to get this game on as there was no other game they could cover on that day. It makes a mockery of the ECB's decision two weeks ago that the Twenty20 games had to be played within the county.

Looking at tomorrow's forecast it might be called off wherever you played it.

I think the ECB are wrong to replay this game.

From time to time games do get completely wiped out - even Test matches - and Martyn Moxon is right when he says it sets a dangerous precedent.

Absolutely it sets a dangerous precedent. We don't want Lancashire winning the championship now do we?

Completely disagree with Martin Moxon and those who are fretting about a precedent being set. When a ground (New Road) has been underwater for several days, and is covered with effluent from the nearby waterway, it is disingenuous to blame current rain showers for abandoning a first class fixture. Rather, it was the decision that the game had to remain there to enable the clean-up to continue more quickly for future fixtures, instead of switching to a fit venue (Kidderminster was mentioned).

Looks like New Road is still suffering from the impact of the flooding. Worcs are 27 for 5 having elected to bat against Sri Lanka A!

It's not being played at New Road, Maggie. The match was moved to the posh sounding Royal Grammar School in Worcester.

It's still an unimpressive start from Worcs though. At least they've got all rounder Gareth Batty to dig them out of trouble.

Edit- bugger. Ighols beat me to it.
