Definitely makes sense to have a contingency plan. With a wet spell of weather forecast, I hope preparations for the 2009 season at New Road aren't disrupted by yet another flood.

Noffke might now miss the start of the season due to a back injury

Heavens, your squad looks thin after the cost cutting.

I can't even see that you have a regular spin bowler?

Going to be a hard slog, and no mistake. Best of luck, as I admire the club for being financially sensible.

No regular spinner until Shakib is done with the Bangladesh tour. Until then, we'll have to rely on Moeen's occasional offies.

If the mods want to merge the two that's fine by me.

Do you really need a full-timer at New Road before the end of May?

In theory no - but if our seamers don't take wickets or can't stem the flow of runs, we will miss not having one.

So what you're saying is that a good seamer who can take wickets or stem the flow of runs would be more valuable.

On our pitches - yes.

We've got Shakib for the second half of the Summer, although he's not the biggest spinner of a ball I've seen.

Pears 287 allout
Midlesex 12/1

Mitchell top scored with 85 - I'd put good money on him being our top scorer this season - not flash, just gets the job done.

Pears beat Middlesex by 111 runs. First win at New Road in the championship since July 2008.

A fantastic start for Worcestershire bearing in mind you lost so many players in the winter!

Couldn't ask for a better start - there will be some tough days ahead, but this will put great heart into the boys.

Caught Sunday's play - that's a superb win considering Finn's figures for Middlesex. Richard Jones looks very promising indeed now and Richardson, if he can stay fit, will prove a good signing.

Yep, just need to get Mase fit and we'll have a tidy attack.
