Bit odd because a steepish chase with wickets already falling should have suited him but suspect Morgan felt that there was no need to take the risk of a slew of long hops and full tosses disappearing to the rope when the other two spinners were going to offer control.

Didn't see it but I believe he didn't race to a six ball duck.

Understand Plunkett bowled quite well and Billings got the man of the match for a good innings (Plunkett having been adjudged the outstanding performer!??), despite then dropping one of the openers off Jordan.

Morgan said that the English T20 competition isn't good enough so he had to give the fringe players a chance in an international match/series to expose them to quality cricket. It probably explains why he went for a slightly lop-sided team and Parry got more opportunity with the ball, and did well. It goes to show the idea that there are no better finger spinners than Ali is a load of crap.

I wonder if Parry will soon get a chance in the 50 over format (again). Ali-Parry would seem a better combination than including Rashid who just isn't cutting it any more and seems to have lost the confidence of both international captains.

I've got a feeling that Morgan wants the leg spinner in the team, no matter how expensive he is. Cook on the other hand I feel would rather eat his own toenails than have Rashid around.

It's the rare (effectively unique at the moment) ability to turn the ball both ways, I suppose.

Hard to say but Parry is pretty much a specialist limited overs bowler so while he might be a better overall bowler than Ali, it seems unlikely. Both did well enough yesterday and credit is due to Parry but Ali is actually a pretty useful limited overs bowler himself, as his record in the format suggests. Of course he's by no means great either but he's a strong pick given his good economy and that he can bat. Course, he's not demonstrated any utility with the bat for a while.

It was an odd decision to leave Buttler out after his stunning performance in the last ODI. After two poor test series, his last two ODI knocks saw a vast improvement in form and confidence. Surely he has to be given every opportunity to capitalise on this? But instead, Morgan rests him for the first T20. Sounds daft to me.

Again, Morgan explicitly said he needs to give the fringe players an opportunity in international T20s as the domestic competition isn't up to standard. The word is Morgan will be rested himself from one of the games and Buttler will come in as skipper.

Our t20 skipper is lucky our competition is so bad or he would not have managed to average 26 at a strike rate of 112. Who did well in the first match? Vince, parry and billings.

Our 20/20 competition is better than any other around the world.

No, it really isn't.

I don't think it is the best but it is not that much worse than the others. Some of our teams are good.

Depends how one judges these things but generally I would say the IPL rules the roost. Fast becoming the equivalent of say the champions league in football. Finals Day is great though and is a good shop window for domestic cricket. Morgan is correct to say the standard is generally not high enough.

As I said, his average of 26 at 112 must be inflated then.

I think I'd rather judge him on his international average of 30@133.

He Averages more in international than in domestic. Is international cricket a gauge for whether they can hack it in county?
