On a separate note, I see the greatest batsman of the modern era, Kumar Sangakkara, will be in the Sky Box this summer.

And the second best, Ponting (although Lara has grounds for a recount).

Why are they here? Their teams aren't playing. Is somebody getting squeezed out?

Australia are playing us in ODIs, hence Ponting.

I think it's a load of arse gravy. Surely no way even Sky will be paying that much to commentators.

Didnt they have it in the Windies in 04 or around then ? I always remember listening to it because every few minutes it was "...coverage of the series, brought to you by ....." drove me mad.

Just me who thought TMS needed a kick up the backside then? Aggers seems to pick and choose his matches (and was doing so a long time before his wife was ill). I doubt he's been to a County game this Century. The failure to remove Blowers before he became a dribbling mess was poor for him and listeners. The one insightful commentator has just been lost to England selectors. And then there's Swann........

I'm quite happy to try something new for a winter.

I remember it from the WIndies tour when Harmison had his purple patch. The commentators spent a lot of time drooling over the Carib Beer girls.

You'll get no dissent from me on your views of Aggers, Blowers and Swann but I do think TMS was starting to turn the corner with the likes of Ebony Rainsford-Brent, Alison Mitchell, James Taylor and Dagnall being more prominent and bringing in a younger, more in touch voice.

Whilst there is certainly room for improvement I'd be amazed if TalkSport was better. Have you ever listened to it?

Yeah, it's ****ing dreadful!! But for the sake of a Sri Lanka and W Indies series (the latter of which is perfect timing for TV watching anyway), I'll take a winter without Aggers pretending he's still in touch with the game.

They did the South African tour 2004/5 if I remember right and it was pretty bad.

Plus it will be on Talksport 2 -some areas won’t get DAB. And forget AM radio.

WiFi might be only route.
