The Nottinghamshire Thread
No Notts fans in this forum?
They're actually my second team after Leics, but I take an interest in them. Anyone know what's happened to Jefferson, the much heralded signing from Essex?

I think he's injured.
Samit Patel's doing well again. |

Hamstring according to the ECB website.
Nice to see another ton for Samit, should take his first class average above 50. I've heard he's a bit weak against really quick bowling. |

Me, I am a Notts fan. Very pleased with our start to the season, batting looks good and the bowling solid as ever, often pegging teams back from good starts. Newell's critics have gone a little quiet for now, and long may it continue.

I suppose I was bound to succumb in the end and join this forum. For anyone who remembers me, I'll try to keep off the subject of Read / England.
However, I am pleased to see that Read has made a decent start to the season for Notts, so hopefully he was just bewildered by the winter's events, not devastated. Last edited by slowest_bowler : 2nd May 2007 at 18:14. Reason: spulling wos rong |

I was surprised to see he averages over 50, there can't be many English players who average that much. He's definitely one to look out for this season

A fine start to the season, which makes it all the more annoying about that complacent final match last season. Still, it's pretty good to have dropped only one point in the first three matches, and that point by being just one run short of the 400.
All the players who've been picked have contributed too, no passengers so far. |

Indeed, a more than useful all-rounder when he gets it right. Nice to have someone who is Notts through and through in the side, as long as he is justifying his place. Swann is another who looks like the token spin selection at times (especially when our seamers rip through teams the way we know they can). Fortunately he too is contributing. I'd like to think it's because Ferley's arrival has given him a kick up the backside.

Franks seems to have got a new lease of life - 92 is a bit more than we've come to expect from him. Maybe his benefit is motivating him? Newell seems to get the best out of (some of) his players by backing them - Read being an example - and he's certainly backed Franks during his loss of form.
Unusual for Ealham to open the bowling - is Sidebottom unwell? |

It seems one of Sidebottom's feet was hit by the ball while batting yesterday. Shreck and Ealham have done pretty well but Notts are clearly missing Sidebottom.

The bowling proved far less effective in the second innings with Sidebottom available, oddly enough.

I imagine that Shreck and Ealham were a bit weary after their first innings efforts.

Bah, was going to go to the FPT match on Sunday but didn't when we saw the forecast. Good choice in the end - not a ball bowled!
Only other day at Trent Bridge so far was the first day of the season vs. Leicestershire... It's hard to get there from Lincs! |

Sidebottom being called up means a start for Footitt, and, bowling 2nd change, he has the wicket of Chopra already.

Now there is a fast left arm bowler who should have been given his chance in the first team ages ago. Has Greg Smith left?
