India vs Australia 4 Test Series

Squad announcement on Wednesday. Expect Cartwright to go out from the XI that played in Sydney, and Agar, Maxwell and the ever dreadful Shaun Marsh to make the tour over. People have been throwing Ashton Turners name around as a possible smokey for no.6 and potentially Pat Cummins. Not sure if they'll include a second keeper. Might just give Handscomb the gloves for the tour if Wade continues to be terrible. What ever the squad, i'll be very surprised if this is anything but a 4-0 victory to India.

The one day squad is somewhat hit and miss, Chris Lynn is a good pick, but Michael Marsh's recall is somewhat preemptive.

Guess the line up could be

Khwaja
Warner
Smith
Lynn
Head/Marsh
Maxwell
Faulkner
Wade
Starc
Hazlewood
Zampa

Looks a pretty bloody good ODI side to me.

Goodness, I really can't see Wade keeping on this tour of India. I really reckon they have to go for Nevill again. He is such a better keeper and on lower pitches he won't make so many costly errors as Wade.

Wade can bat and although he has performed poorly since his return, he can certainly bat on lower slower spinning pitches like he did at Rosseau in Dominica a few years back. The ball was turning a mile.

Just giving any of the top Indian batsmen a life due to a keeping error would cancel out any benefit of his runs.

I wonder how Handscomb will go. He was solid but I just think his backfoot technique may be a worry over there. Mind you I though that against the Pakistan quicks too and he has lovely footwork against spin. Can't wait to see how he goes.

Handscomb needs to come in at keeper, that will give us the luxury of bringing another bat in and effectively give us an extra batsman.
We all know the huge advantage of having a genuine batsman keeper, we need to groom Handscomb as our futurte keeper, even if he has a few shortcomings atm it makes huge sense.

Don't agree re. Handscomb. He's slotted in seamlessly as a batsman only, let him get used to the role without burdening him with the gloves.

Handscomb no longer keeps. No way would you pick him as keeper

He just recently kept in a test match, and keeps full time for Melbourne Stars. If we can pick Wade as a keeper, then we can pick Handscomb. Might not actually be the worst short-term solution.

That's all nice and cute, but I fail to see what relevance it has on the upcoming test matches of India?

Zebs doesn't seem to have started a one day thread yet, so had to put it somewhere.

That is not correct. He filled in for an injured Wade in a test but no longer is a longer form keeper is he?

Nothing about what I said was incorrect. He kept for an entire day of a test, and looked much more competent than the man he filled in for. And he keeps for the Melbourne Stars. Those are facts. You are incorrect.

Ok. Fine. He no longer keeps longer firm does he? It is a question? Therefore I would not see him as a viable alternative for a 4match test series. Would you?

Stopped being a specialist keeper 2 seasons ago. Under normal circumstances I would agree, but he is a viable alternative to Wade. Hell, Geraint Jones would be a viable alternative to Wade at the moment.

Alright then. Mitch Marsh was also never dropped from the one day side btw.

I would be quite happy for the Aussies to have the cryogenically frozen version of the 2006 Jones who played the first 3 tests of that other England meltdown (seems almost halcyon compared to the series 3 years ago or so!). It will give Petarea a chuckle for one!

Jones was unlucky that series. He was messed around by Fletcher and hung out to dry.

Jones was lucky to have played 34 test matches.
