According to you, who is the greatest bowler?

We had a lot of discussion on the greatest batsman thread so I thought, why not do one for bowlers? It's still for players from 1970 onwards for the reasons mentioned before. This time round, there will be a couple changes:

First off, you all get a say as to who makes it into the top 10 poll. So post your top 10s, properly ranked, on here. The bowlers with the most nominations will get put into the poll.

Second, make sure whoever you pick has played at least 20 tests and 40 ODIs. Don't worry about the number of T20s and don't worry about the number of ODIs for bowlers before the ODI era.

My top 10 list (nominees) is:

1. Wasim Akram
2. Malcolm Marshal
3. Muttiah Muralitharan
4. Shane Warne
5. Dennis Lillee
6. Glenn McGrath
7. Michael Holding
8. Waqar Younis
9. Curtly Ambrose
10. Imran Khan

Nominations close at some point next week.

No South African? Pollock, Donald and Steyn.
Joel Garner probably deserves consideration as well.

Best pace bowlers I've seen would be Wasim, McGrath, Steyn and Ambrose. Used to love watching Wasim and Donald too on tv in the one day county tournaments in the 90s.

Anderson in his 2010-14 vintage would be the best fast medium swing bowler in my lifetime. He really has honed swing bowling to an art even if the limits to that style mean he is slightly behind the very best.

No question that Warne and Murali stand head, shoulders, torso and the rest above any other spinners.

In the shorter formats, Lee and Starc probably the best two.

Good stuff from the guys posting their lists, I'll be keeping a record of them but it seems that 4 or 5 names are a definite shoe in.

As for the other posts, guys, you gotta make that top 10 or even top 5. Most nominations make it into the poll.

Nice to see Tim Ambrose getting a look in for old time's sake. As for Curtly, his Q and A session (your Qs, his As) on TMS the other day was the highlight of England's current tour.

You make these things less fun than they need to be, but if a list helps you:

Wasim
Ambrose
McGrath
Steyn
Donald
Waqar
Warne
Murali
Anderson
Lee (for ODIs)

As the nominations are for bowlers, should Muralitharan be featured?

Garner probably the best quick of the lot, in either format. Always seems to go under the radar.

Garner
Ambrose
Marshall
Warne
Macgrath
Steyn
Waquar
Lillee
Wasim
Holding
